Can you OV but not release an egg???

So I'm pretty bummed today because I thought for once in the 8 months of TTC that this cycle was going to be it because my temps seemed to be looking good, our BD days were good and then today at 10dpo my temps drops. I know I'm not out until AF shows but I was wondering something and I had been wondering this for a while now and thought I should ask...

Can you Ovulate, show ovulation by temps, OPK etc and NOT release an egg? Kinda like shooting blanks but for women?

I'm wondering this because I'm only 24 years old, I'm pretty healty, I've always had regular periods, never been on BC and just started TTC for the first time in my life 8 months ago and NOTHING!!! I know my periods and cycles are very normal, but is it possible to Ovulate but not release an egg? If so, could this be why or am I jumping to conclusion.

I think you are jumping the gun some here. Implantation can take until 12dpo to happen. Your temp drop is only .3 degrees which really isn't a big drop. My implant drop for this pg was almost a full degree. Also remember that it can take a perfectly healthy couple with no issues up to 12 months to conceive. Maybe try some new tactics to keep it fun and both of you more

Two things:
a) I could be wrong here, but I believe that to ovulate is to release an egg. I think if you haven't released an egg, you haven't ovulated. What's making your temps rise are the hormones, proof that you have indeed ovulated, and therefore released an egg. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that one!!

b) If you are getting frustrated after TTC for 8 months with no result, I don't think at this point there would be anything wrong with talking to a doc about the initial stages of testing. I had a very supportive doc who started looking into things immediately, when we'd barely started trying. Of course, I knew that it could take some time no matter what the results were, but for me it was important to keep trying on our end as we ruled out any problems. It couldn't hurt to ask.

Cycle 1 - BFN. Was told I have polycystic ovaries. The fertility obession begins.
Day 3 Blood Work - Appears to be normal, with slightly high prolactin. Must re-do next cycle.
Cycle 2 - DH's s/a came back normal. BFN - AF arrived early.
Cycle 3 - Day 3 Blood Work re-do is normal. Could not do HSG...long story. Have an appt. with the local fertility genius in mid-May. O'ed early, no chance for a BFP this cycle, which was my first 28 day cycle in YEARS!
Cycle 4 - Day 3 b/w is normal yet again. Back to my usual CD 19/20/21 O day. Using CBEFM and OPKs, not temping. Still trying to determine whether or not I actually have PCOS. Learning that polycystic ovaries might not mean I have PCOS. Totally confused.

you're right - the definition of ovulation is the releasing of an egg. Now, could there be something wrong with the egg? I don't know. But if you ovulate, one is released.

To the OP - YOUR CHART LOOKS GREAT. You had fertile CM - a abrupt temp SPIKE - you're good - well above cover.

Thanks Ladies for help with that question. Sorry if it was a silly question but it was something I had been wanting to know.

Eases some TTC pain a bit knowing that I clearly do Ovulate, but still, I wish I could know why it's taking this long.

I just thought if men sometimes "shoot blanks" that maybe women do too. So could there be something wrong with the egg? The women who responded last made a great poing. Could an egg be useless?

I really want to take a test on Saturday, which I probably will, what do you girls think about that? Also, what will happen if my temp drops more tomorrow??? My DPO days usually last 12-13 days...I'm hoping my temps stay high and hoping to see my BFP soon!
