Ok, so I am new here. My name is Ashley and I just recently turned 25.
I have 2 angels in heaven --- my first pregnancy (2005) resulted in an early miscarriage (almost right after I found out I was pregnant...I actually went to my doctor because I had an irregular cycle and then some really awful cramping. Anyway, lost the baby naturally (didn't have to have any surgery or anything...although I think I lost the baby the day I had the awful cramping. I lost my 2nd pregnancy about 6 or 7 weeks in. This time it was an ectopic. Was early enough to not have to go into surgery and had the methotrexate shot and it worked. My HCG levels went down and I was lucky not to experience any negative side effects of the medicine. My hubby and I waited several months (3 to be exact) to start trying again, and so began my irregular cycles. (On a side note, I have checked out causes of ectopic pregnancies and I do not meet any of the criteria for risk factors for having one...except I did smoke marijuana quite a bit...and I think that could possibly contribute, although most literature I found only referred to cigarette smoking. I am clean now, though and don't smoke or drink anymore).
This year I have had a normal period several times (my normal period is about 5-6 days long and my cycles are on average a little long, maybe 32 days or so), but not every month. I recently missed my period for almost 2 months when I went to see my OBGYN. She didn't express a lot of concern about my situation, saying that I have obviously ovulated before and have been pregnant as well, even though I did lose both. So, she put me on prenatal vitamins (at my request) and also on progesterone to bring on my period. So, like clockwork, the day after I finished the Provera (I was on it for 10 days and started my cycle the very next day). So Day 1 of my cycle was on August 8, 2009. Exactly on the 14th day of my cycle (08/21/09), I began spotting. It started in the evening on the 14th day and the blood was confined to the toilet paper. It was not on my underwear or even in my urine (sorry if TMI). It continued the same on Saturday, confined to the same place and wasn't heavy. The color was mostly pinkish/brownish. On Sunday, however, I woke up and there was slightly a little more blood. I put on a pad (didn't have any pantyliners) and the blood did not fill it up. It was in a line barely halfway down and not wide across. By early Monday morning, Day 17 of my cycle, the blood was completely 100% gone. So, if you want to be technical, although it went from Day 14-Day 17 (4 days), I would say it was more like 2 & 1/2-3 days since it started on an evening and ended on an early morning. Anyway, today is Day 21 of the progesterone withdrawal cycle and I am getting labs done at the request of my OBGYN (the labs are checking progesterone and TSH).
Oh, one more thing...On Day 19 & Day 21, I have vomited in the morning. Today was worse, smells were upsetting my stomach also (that hasn't happened since I was last pregnant)
Also, I am in great health otherwise. I am technically overweight, but my BP, sugar levels, cholesterol levels are in great condition. I don't have any liver or kidney issues either. And I have never (to my recollection...perhaps once) bled mid-cycle before this.
My question is: what the heck was that bleeding about? Was it ovulation bleeding? Was it just mid-cycle bleeding that may indicate something bad? Was it something else? Maybe a side effect of the Provera? Has anyone else experienced this?
I know I need to speak with my OBGYN and I will, but it seems like these things always happen on the weekend and I don't wanna stress too much. Just wanted to put my story out there and see if anyone else has gone through this or something similar. Any constructive comments would be helpful and appreciated. Thank you.
