Hi! just wanted to wish you good luck with your HSG today! I have to have one next monday or tuesday. I have to schedule it today. My doctor told me that it only takes 5 minutes and that I could literally have the procedure done then go right to work afterwards. I've heard that mild to moderate AF like cramps are not uncommon but it's not supposed to be severe. Good Luck! Keep me posted on the results and how yours goes! I'm nervous as heck too!

Hi,
I had an HSG last year. I had read a number of horror stories on the internet about the procedure but everyone I actually knew IRL who had one had told me that it was uncomfortable but not unbearable.

For me, it was like having a pap and while I did cramp a little it wasn't painful. I got caught up in watching the dye on the screen. I had a spasm so the dye didn't go through my left tube. Wasn't blocked though...b/c I have gotten pregnant from that side since then (Im a fertility patient so am monitored).

Mine took about 20 minutes and I was fine to drive etc afterward. I didn't take any pain relievers but some people take an ibuprofen about 30 minutes prior to the procedure.

Good luck and I hope you get great information!

That makes me feel SO much better! DH was supposed to go get his S/A done tomorrow but the guy who runs the specimen has a family emergency so we had to reschedule it. It's rescheduled to next tuesday and I got my appt scheduled for tuesday late afternoon. He's at 2 pm then we'll be driving the extra 3 miles to go to the medical center where my HSG will be done. Just a big fun ol' day of fertility testing! The nurse that scheduled my appt told me that she wants me to start an anitbiotic on the day of the appt as a preventative measure against infection. still nervous but I'm feeling better.

I went for my HSG a few months ago, and had a bad experience with it.

Hi b.bem.boo!

I had my HSG today and DH got is S/A done. We won't know the results of the S/A for up to 7 days. My HSG went well though. I was so scared that I was shaking! I took two motrin about 40 minutes before and my RE is who actually did the test so that made things better. My tubes were open and I only had a little bit of cramping during the test. It litterally took 5 minutes from the time I layed down on the table til my RE told me to sit up because we were done. I had to laugh to myself a little after it was all over because I was breathing deeply through the whole test and I think I over did it with the breathing because I almost passed out when I sat up. haha! *blush* otherwise it went well!

DH drove me home, we got caught in the rain (which never happens here) so I was thrilled about that and then he cooked steaks for supper! :) Just have to wait for his S/A results now...praying that they are good!

I looked at the nurse and doctor and said the same thing. like, "that's it?" haha

Good luck getting DH's s/a results! My RE said that if we didn't hear back within 7 days to assume all was normal but he said he will still call us. Keep me posted when you get DH's results! :)

Good Luck!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I had an HSG done last December and it was the worst experience I had every encountered in my life. The procedure itself was very painful and had me in tears. Now, I'm pretty good when it comes to pain, but this was unbearable.
