Ov/Luteal Phase Question??

Hi all, I'm used to having super regular cycles so I'm confused at what my body is doing lately. I went of the pill in May (4 months ago), in the hopes of regulating my cycle when it came time to TTC (last month). I don't temp or chart or anything, but I have been keeping track of my cycles on the Fertility Friend calendar. Since May, my shortest cycle has been 25 days and my longest 30. During this time I never really paid attention to if and when I o'd except for last month and this month.

Bear with me :) Last month I o'd on CD 14 and AF came on cd 27. This month I didn't o til CD 16 (Aug 31st). I was still expecting AF on about CD 27 or 28 (Sept 12ish), but according to FF I shouldn't expect it until CD 31 (Sept 15). Is this right?? I've never had a cycle that long! Does ovulation always occur mid cycle or can it happen later with AF still coming at it's regularly scheduled day. Am I making sense?? Sorry it's hard to ask what I'm trying to ask. What I want to know is...if ovulation occurs later in a cycle, does that always mean AF will come later. Also is this time between O and AF called the luteal phase? I've never really understood that part.

Thank you so much if you can offer any insights!!

Kristy-I know how confusing it can be once you first start charting and TTC. Here is what I know, your luetal phase(LP) usually doesn't change. Going off of last months cycle, if you o'd on cd14 and AF arrived on cd27 this puts your LP at 13 days. Its safe to say that from the day you O, AF shouldn't arrive until 13 days later. So, if you O later in your cycle, AF will show up on a day past cd27 ( AF should actually show on cd29 since your O day was extended by 2 days) I hope I am making sense!! So, like I said your LP usualy doesn't change. The only time it will become longer is if you are taking a vitamin b supplement, which is what some ladies on here use if their LP is less than 12 days. Since you LP is the time in your cycle that the egg will be fertalized and implant, your body needs enough time for that to occur. Average LP is about 13-16 days.

Hope this helps!! And feel free to join the ladies in the September Lucky BFP Thread down under the buddy groups. There are a lot of ladies there to help you through this time and also answer any questions you have!!! :)

Good luck!!

Thanks, that totally makes sense! So I should expect my period start date to change rather than my luteal phase length to change. Now that I look at my chart again, I AM expecting AF at 13 DPO (based on my history, not based on the predicted AF start date given by FF). Here's to hoping the witch doesn't make an appearance at all though and that we caught the eggie this month!!

Thanks for the info!

Thats right! Glad I could help! :) FF usually gives you a longer than expected LP to make sure that you aren't testing too early....I always ignored the test date FF gave me...hahaha
