OPK help please!!
| Fri, 09-18-2009 - 11:50pm |
I started taking OPT on Wed. and got a faint line (negative) yesterday I got a slightly darker still not as dark as control line (negative, but getting closer?). Today I got only the control line, so what gives? Did I already have my surge? Bad test?
I took all test at same time of day, same "senerios" had to go, not overly drinking water.
Thanks for any advice or suggestions!

Hi Beth,
I believe that it's likely that the test with the slightly darker line could have indeed been a positive. It's harder to decipher an OPK than it is an HPT because OPK measures the level of LH, which is always in your system, just is in higher amounts shortly before you ovulate. HPTs are merely looking for the presence of HCG.
Your OPKs may not be sensitive enough for you. This was my case, but after months of tracking my cycles, I came to accept OPKs that looked like the attached picture to be positive. The test line was only this dark once a month, at a time that made sense and eventually there was a pattern. The particular OPK in this picture was certainly positive for me because based off its result, I BDed the only time that month and voila - I got pregnant and the age of my bean fits perfectly with this date.
Of course, it is still possible that this was not a positive. In using OPKs, you will see varying tests lines and maybe no line throughout your cycle. Look for darkest that you can get in a cycle.
Were you expecting to ovulate around the time of this test? Are you temping or using any other methods, if so, does the date of the test correlate?
I don't temp. but I'm pretty sure it was the right time based on my fertility calendar.
I have problems with HPTs when it comes having a high enough level to register a positive. So I was even suprised to register anything on the OPT. In glad to hear that this could be the case.
Thanks so much!!
