Question of the Week!

Hi, all. Sorry I haven't been around for the past few days. I went to Provincetown, Mass. for a long weekend of camping, beach bumming, sunbathing, sightseeing, shopping and whale watching. It was a lot of fun, but I'm glad to be back and sleeping in my own bed! I found an awesome sterling silver amber ring at one of the many awesome jewlery shops down there, though. So the trip was well worth it even without all the fun and sun.

Anyway, so I'm back and ready to rock! I will get the Two of Cups up later tonight after I catch up on my work. But for now, let's think about a question for this week, shall we? The question is:

Do you have a special ritual way that you like to use when you shuffle the cards or when you have your querent shuffle the cards? That is, do you shuffle them a certain way or number of times, cut them a certain way or number of times, etc?

Hugs, Elli

I do!

I always (and suggest to my querents also, if they WANT to) separate the deck and turn one half upside down (ie, reversing the direction in the deck) between shuffles. When they "feel" done, I have them cut the deck three ways, and then I pick up the first pile, placing it on the second pile and finally on the third pile.

I am interested to see how other people do it!

Loving this board,

My only rituals are.... (m)

1. Before each reading, I shuffle the cards a few (or several) times to "clear" them of any energy that might be lingering from a previous reading. 2. I then have the querent shuffle the cards while thinking about the problem. Sometimes I'll just talk to the person about the issue while they are shuffling, to make sure that it is in their mind as they handle the cards. When I do a reading for someone who isn't right there in front of me (I often read for my friend over the phone, as I did just today), I make sure that I think of their question or issue, whether in words or pictures, as I shuffle for the second time. If it is just a general reading, I concentrate on them and the sound of their voice.

3. When the reading is over, I shuffle the cards again, to "shake off" the excess energy.

I know this may sound incredibly flakey, but I really do feel that energy "sticks" to the cards, which is good when the querent is handling them before a reading, but who needs all that psychic gunk built up on them? I think of it along the same lines as cleaning out the lint trap in a washing machine--routine maintenance for better performance. Also, shuffling is another very intuitive action. I shuffle until I'm satisfied--which doesn't take as long as it used to--until I feel like I should stop. *And*, shuffling the cards is one of those things that helps to change your focus, maybe even put you into a (very) light trance, an altered state of awareness that can be very helpful when dealing with any type of divination. If nothing else, it gives you a few moments to "tune in" to what you are about to do, and to center yourself.

Good question!

HI all...I am new here and this is what I do (m)

1. Shake off the previous energy.

2. Have the person shuffle and think about there question.

3. Then I have them cut the cards 3 ways.

4. This is the tricky part. I then put my hand over each of the three cuts (not touching them) and feel which one has the most energy coming off of it (which one wants to speak first so to speak) I pick that one up and move on to the next two and do the same until all three are picked up in the order that I feel was given to me.

5. I collect them in the order I feel the most energy and then do the reading. When I am done I shake them off and then rap them back up in silk so that unwanted energy around them does not stick to them so they are fresh for the next reading.

My Way (m)

I usually let the other person shuffle unless they aren't present. I like to go into a light meditation to "feel" them and get in touch with my guides. Depending on the person, sometimes I have them lay their hands on top of mine to bond with them and relax them and I ask that they cut the cards their way.

When I do a reading for myself, I cut the cards a strange way. I take some off the main pile and make two piles to the right of that and then take some more off the main pile and lay some on the second and the rest on the third pile and finally take the remainder of the main pile, then the remainder of the second pile and lay it all on the third pile.

importance of shuffle

I have the person I'm reading or myself focus on the question as they shuffle the cards. The book I started with gave this advice about interpreting the shuffle-

sloppy shuffle means lack of concentration

shuffling close to themselves means they are private and shy. it can also mean they are sceptical.

shuffling outward towards the reader is an invitation to tell all.

after shuffling I have the inquirer cut the deck into three piles. I have them cut the deck with their left hand because according to my book that is the hand of the suconscious mind

That's basically how I do it too (m)

Shuffle til I feel like they're shuffled enough, then I use my left hand and divide them into 3 piles and swipe my hand over each one and pick the one that I get the most energy from, kind of a buzz. I choose runes by swiping my hand over them in the bag and picking the ones that have the strongest energy, so I guess that's where that came from.
