Need help with a crazy problem

Hi everyone-
On three occasions I have had a strange thing happen. I'll be online, either on AOL or IE, when suddenly I can't type anything or else it will be in all caps. Examples: Today I couldn't login to my bank acct. It just wouldn't type the numbers at all. Then, I tried to reply to an email and it came out all caps but the caps lock was not on. When I turned it on, the letters came out small. It was the opposite of normal, yet either way, I couldn't type a period, only the "greater than" sign that's on that key. Same thing happened when I tried to type in the address box on IE. And when I try to backup and delete it, it highlights the letters. Very frustrating! Also, when I click to make my mouse engage to scroll down, it highlights everything from that point and above. The only thing I can do is shut down and wait a few minutes, then start up again. Could this be a Windows XP glitch? I've had this Gateway computer since January and this just started happening this week. I noticed the box that has the settings for "filter keys" has popped up a couple of times. I tried turning it on and off, but to no avail. I don't know if that's the problem or not. Should I call Gateway? I guess they would know if it's a Windows problem or if I've got something set wrong. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Oh, one more thing, which is a separate problem. I have a Microsoft optical mouse and sometimes (like a few minutes ago when I had typed this whole message in) I'll accidentally bump the left side with my thumb and then what I had typed vanishes and I have to start over. How do I get it back?
Thanks in advance.

My buttons go back with the thumb and forward with the ring finger....lol....I am used to the back button so that is probably why I never got into them.....but having the volume on the keyboard would be great and my desk has a hole so I can get the mouse cord to the back of the computer but every once in a while I have all the cord pulled out and have to stick it back there again.....lol
The cordless tools, I told DH that the only cordless thing that really works good is a flashlight....I fought getting a digital camera(it still hasn't won my heart) but I found one I could live with and for Christmas he got me a 15 minute battery charger and the batteries it is not only A/C but comes with a car charger. So there is no reason for me not to have good batteries. lol.. I do have to say that I have never printed a digital picture I think that I can't get them to look as good as Kodak can but now I can take the memory card there and they can do it for a lot less than I could at home. But I do like it for getting something sent or put on the internet. And I haven't really played with it a lot yet. I sure miss my 80x200 optical zoom I have on my film camera.
I am probably the only woman that hates messing with hair, I hate fixing it washing it and then dumping gunk on it so it was do what it is supposed to. So I keep it extra short, but I had to use the curling iron on top then complain when I had to go back and get it cut so often. Well the other day I said for the upteenth time,,,,,if I had the guts I would have her shave my head.......She said ,,,,,it don't take guts and she turned the chair around and when she was done I have what I would say is akin to the 50s flattop but not flat.........stands straight up.....lol......Adults say, Jaaaaaanet what did you do to your hair? My grandkids say,,,,,,,Hey grandma that is so COOL. I am listening to the kids.....lol.........It will grow....and I am not upset about it. Janet
Have a nice day !.
