A new one here

We lost our precious little dog last Sunday and are now wanting to print copies of some photos we took of him with our digital camera, which are all on the computer now. DH tried to print out some of those using Epson glossy photo paper, meaning he did run some of the glossy paper thru the printer and did get one good print. Now the printer won't even TRY to print anything at all, no paper is caught in it or anything. Is there some problem running the photo paper thru the printer might have caused? It's a feisty printer to begin with, an HP 952c desk jet that from time to time has a hissy fit and spits out hundreds of blank pages. I'd love to just get a new one, but this one isn't that old! The printer is a "desk jet", the paper says "ink jet" on the package, is there a difference???

And after you have done what Donna L. suggests, check your cartridges. I have a cheaper printer than yours and it ran out of ink after two prints.

Printers, as a rule, are little brats.

Hadn't tried shutting down, I'll give that a try since it's simple! Everything is securely plugged in, no paper inside.

Wow, that cartridge went fast. Actually DH just installed new cartridges, both color and black and white, only one photo printed. The main thing I'm noticing is right now it won't obey ANY commands - usually when it's getting low on ink or whatever, it'll still try to print as long as I tell it to, it just won't be good print. Right now the "on" light is on and it refuses to print anything at all, it's like it's not responding to any command whatsoever. It's just that it hasn't printed one page since DH ran the photo paper thru, made me think that has screwed something up.

Other than occasionally deciding to vomit 200 pages of paper with nothing on them (I make sure to keep reusing the same dozen papers when it starts that nonsense) - or WORSE with nonsense along the top of the pages, this computer has actually worked pretty decently, cartridges are a snap to replace, paper jams are easy to clear, etc. DH followed the instructions on the box for using the photo paper, he gets as frustrated with this stuff as I do. Cartridges are new and in properly, door is closed (for sure!), cables all securely attached, printer "on" light is on, no paper is caught inside, and when I try to get it to print, it does NOT send any error message that something's wrong - the problem is it won't do ANYTHING, as in "anything" - I hit the "print" button and the printer doesn't even make a sound now. I don't do well doing troubleshooting, I invariably quickly run into a question that totally stumps me and makes me feel like an idiot for even trying. I wish DH was better with this type of problem than I was, but he will just avoid using the printer now, so I'm on my own!!! He has put some of the digital photos on a disc, I guess we can go that route. We've had this printer a couple of years now, I know from experience they just aren't built to last long.

The one photo that printed is actually pretty good, I'd just like to do more of them. DH used an 8x10 sheet of photo paper, but it only printed on the top half of the page, so he must have had it set like that. This has been a fairly reliable printer, compared to the others we've had over the years. I really do think they build them as "throw aways", our dumps must be heaped up with all these techie bodies by now. I have no clue what you mean when you say you can use your "toolbox" to check the ink level, ??? I hate to spring for a new one, too, this is just a mid-priced one, since we just don't need a pricey one here at home at all.

I have lots of pictures of Murphy on this computer, I have no clue how to let you see one here, though. If you know how, let me know. He was only 6, two diseases hit him at the same time, what were the odds of that? Black and white Cocker, adorable little guy, it's a sad house here. I had a web site at iV for awhile, but those mostly got wiped out when all the changes took place this year.
