Question about Firefox browser

I am having problems with Microsoft Internet Explorer.   Sometimes I cannot get any site to come up.  I am still connected, but no matter what site I try to get up, I get the page that says it cannot fine this site.  The only solution I have found is to log off and then log back on.  Very inconvenient.

Do you think using Firefox browser would help?  Or is there another solution?  My computer is very secure and I don't have any viruses.  Has anyone else used Firefox?

I would appreciate any help as I am not a computer genius - just a grandma.  lol

I was having the same problems with IE last year and I decided on going with Mozilla. Mozilla is much faster and better than IE. Firefox is made by the same company and I know some who use Firefox and they love it too. If you do switch, make sure you still do your windows updates as this will help protect your computer....even if you don't use internet explorer.

Just remember that IE isn't the only one with security problems it seems so besure and go to Mozilla site and get the patches......

Lynne, does IE work now? Did you ever find out what the problem is? Thanks Janet

It will likely put an icon on the desktop. When I got my first computer it of coarse came with IE but my ISP used Netscape so they thought we had to have that too. At the time we had to install a disk to get dialup and it came with the disk.....I didn't even know that I didn't have to use Netscape. But everytime I went to go on the internet a box would pop up and say, do you want Netscape to be your default browser? I would say no and it would open. Then one day I just clicked on IE.

It opened faster and the pages came up faster than Netscape. I liked it so much better. So when it came time to reinstall 98 on that machine I just didn't download it again. By that time we had DSL and I didn't need to install software to get on the internet. Then I said yes I want IE to be my default..........lol..........Janet

Janet,

I don't know if IE works now or not. I really haven't used it. The only time I do use it is if there's a rare site that doesn't play well with Mozilla. One of these days I'll check to see if I can get into iVillage with IE.

I am about due for a clean up and reinstall I want to add more memory and then I think I will use IE and another browser. But that big fix is just around the corner and I want to see how many problems that is going to cause. I have been reading what the beta testers are saying.

But, maybe I am the only one who really hasn't had a lot of trouble with IE or maybe I don't know trouble when it is in my face......lol..... But after I became a cl I could no longer just come to iVillage I had to log in with or without my hat, that is a pain. Another cl told me she downloaded Mozilla and uses one browser with her cl hat on and one without that way she don't have to log in all the time....that was enough for me to want to get another browser
