as you know, i want to give ds, who will be almost 5 at the time, our old computer for christmas.  i found a neat download of a kids web browser.  it has  big buttons and links to only places for kids like NickJr., pbskids, Bob the Builder ect.  He already loves it.  I am wondering can I just delete all the shortcuts off my desktop to things I don't want him using just in case?  I plan to buy him some pc games.  I plan to have the shortcuts to those game on the desktop for him but not much else.  Any other suggestions?

Was this a Windows xp machine? You can give him his own log in so that you could log him in and he wouldn't be able to get to most of the other things on the computer.

But the icons are just shortcuts if he goes to Start, he can still start those program up.For a while you would be able to tell him and show him what he could click on and if he really likes being on the computer when he clicks on some of that other stuff it could make the computer not work...... that would probably work of a while....lol...

The best bet is to just keep an eye on him. I have seen 4 and 5 year olds open and send emails so it won't take long before he is going to know that there is other stuff on the computer. If there is someone there all the time he will be less apt to do anything but play his games.

Good luck. I am so glad that I don't have young kids now..... Janet
