Byte Verifier Patch??
| Sat, 08-21-2004 - 11:50pm |
Hi! I was shown by CW Shredder that I had picked up CWS.Smartsearch 2 which it cleaned off my PC. It told me to download the "Byte Verifier Patch" from Microsoft.com. I tried!! but didn't find anything that seemed remotely like that on the page it sent me to. Is there a more technical name? What can I do? Thanks, Sal

This is what I found
The ByteVerifier patch is nothing more than the latest version of JavaVM, but it's
not going to stop those hijackings, and neither is switching to Sun's Java. AW is
currently the main tool used for cleaning these latest complex CWS hijackers,
because it scans deep. It must be set up correctly to run a full system scan.
CW Shredder is a small program that is used to get rid the parts of CoolWebSearch (it is also known by many other names) but Adaware and SpyBot Search and Destroy left some of this so you could use this program to finish the job. But I think both programs may have been updated to take care of this by now. I know I have updated both programs. And that is one thing they were working on. So I would check their sites to make sure before you download this program.
