Printer problem

I have my own personal printer that I use at work and yesterday it quit working!  The cradle that holds the ink cartridges won't move back and forth.  Do you think it's something that can be fixed or not?  It's an HP Deskjet 3420 - about $100 to buy new, so I'm thinking I probably will just replace it rather than spend money to fix it.   If you have any suggestions, let me know and I'll have my hubby take a look at it!  Thanks.

The cartridge assembly sits on a motor driven shaft, that rarely fails. What is the more likely scenario is the cover sensor is dirty or failed. Therefore the safety feature is engaged and the cartridge won't move so you won't get hurt by moving parts.

1.the sensor is nothing more than a magnetic strip that is glued on the cover, take a look and see if it has fallen out anywhere.

2.Go over to your refrigerator and take off one of your refrigerator magnets, cut a small piece off and match it to the latch to see if that takes care of the problem.

Outside of that a package of sensors usually 2 from HP is about 35 bucks.

Me personnally, I would buy a new one.
