purityscan is adware and must be removed.

With the laptop you are using go to www.securitytango.com download the info to a disc and load it onto the PC in question.

Easy to follow instructions then everything will be fine.

Ed,

I went to that site and saw it. But, if I have Spybot & Destroy and adware, it doesnt show purityscan on it. I also went to that task manager site with all the prog. listed on there and saw OCEM........it was just soo complicated that I have no idea what to do. Can I unintalled inter. explore and reinstall it, would that work?

Why would I have to download that new prog. if i have that spybot and adware remove. Do those two progs. not work to get rid of OCEM? I dont know what the heck Im doing and about to give up!

its one of the simplest sites I know. In your case I would recommend to have your PC professionally serviced.

Have you updated the definitions in Spybot and AdAware? There's a new and improved AdAware called AdAware Personal SE. Have you tried that one yet?

When you start Adaware and Spybot always get the updates first. But I have to agree with Ed if it is causing you stress then let a pro do it for you. We have all been there and had to do that. Now breathe.....lol.......Janet

You mentioned AIM, I just got home but have been hearing that there is another thing being passed through AIM. I know it is a fun program and you can talk to your AIM buddies without even having the AIM program installed. I do. I use Trillian........ http://www.trillian.cc/

Hi! Thought I'd hop in here if that's ok. :-)

I've heard of PurityScan but don't think I've been lucky enough to have it inhabit my computer, LOL.

Run Adaware and Spybot in safe mode. Could be memory resident.

Also, if there's something I don't know what it is, I go to Yahoo or Google and search for it. Even MSVCRT.DLL can be typed in and searched for. :-)

In answer to your question, reformatting is wiping out the hard drive to a clean slate, and erasing everything on it. Even less than when you bought it. :-) Not bad but if there's any important info on it, you'll lose it all. (I've lost pictures and school work that way)

It's been a few days since you posted, have you fixed anything yet??

Thanks to everyone here on this "error" message I get on IE. I have a guy coming here this week to check it out for me! I have always been successful with this computer, but this one just has me stumped. I will however run the adaware in safe mode. I've never done it in that mode, always normal. But, the other day I've installed Netscape 7.2 and that browser works great! I still want to get the IE going of course and will look into that. At least we've had the internet using the Netscape browser! LOL! Also, I want to instatll the Adaware SE, but I think I have to uninstalled the Adaware 6...........not sure. I click updates for the Adaware 6 and they say ......."NO updates" or something to that effect! Ok..........thanks for all the information everyone.........great board!

Gagesmommykristina,

Thanks for the info! My "puter" is all better! What he did was completly uninstall IE and do a system restore to the way it was when I bought it. Never had to do that before! He also put in the Adaware SE, too.......works great. And of course the Spy Bot. We just couldnt figure out how do it it otherwise. Netscape 7.2 worked fine, but the IE........got that mess. We took off that beastly Kazaa lite. Dont get that on your computer........Only had a few songs, but still. So know its fine and I hope it stays that way!!!!!!! LOL!

Thanks!
Marie
P.S. Great kids!!!!!!!!!!
