I have Virus protection and Personal Firewall Plus on my computer. Do I also need to have a Privacy Service on it also? Please let me know if I should have it. Thank you, mandygal

What do you mean by Privacy Service? Like Norton Internet Security? or one with other software? Probably not. Remember too, never click on anything that pops up and tells you that you need something or that you are not safe those can download spyware or worse.

There are privacy settings you can do right in your browser to help with security. And now they are saying that if you use another browser like Mozilla or Firefox they are a little safer than Internet Explorer. You can have both if you like.

Re Mozilla browser -- I notice my Netscape 7.1 is based on Mozilla. Is this also included in your comments about using FireFox or Mozilla? Just curious. Now, *here* is something I also use on my Mac -- Netscape. I have never liked IE, never used it much at all, and ignore it completely, LOL! :D Netscape, back in the early 90s *was* the browser of choice and IE is a cheap copy, IMO, LOL! I still prefer Netscape, both Messenger for email as well as it's browser. Unfortunately, there are also many websites out there designed to work great with only IE, and you get screwy views in Netscape or other browsers. :// I mainly stuck to Netscape products (even if owned by AOL, blecch!) because most of the nasty security holes and disasters were occuring with IE and Outlook Express, so I dropped Outlook Express like a hot potato, too, after trying it for awhile...

Just my 2 cents and question,

Gypsy

When I got my first computer in '99 the phone company, my isp used Netscape and not knowing anything at all back then I just went with it. Even though everytime I clicked to open it I got a pop up saying Netscape in not your default browser, do you want to make it default? I didn't know so I said no. Then one day I clicked on IE and it was so much faster than Netscape so when I had to have that computer reinstalled I didn't even download it.

I have OE for my main email and have not had any trouble with it. But then from the start I never opened attachments and I had my preview pane closed, I never open anything if I don't know where it came from. But I do like my stationary and it is the only program you can add the neat stuff to......lol......Now my isp has a filter so things are pretty clean when I get them. And in xp I have it not show me attachmets it takes them out.

But because more people use IE and OE than anything else that is what the bugs and the hackers go for, they get more bang for their stupidity I guess. Also not as many people use Macs either so they don't get the viruses that everyone else does.

I am a grandmother and use the computer for fun not for work. Mainly I got it because even though I understand football I hate it more than anything, lol......Not the game per se but well that is for another board.....lol.......excuse me I digress.....

I insert things into my email all the time I love it. The first time I sent a birthday email to my one DGD I recorded my message to her, she said it freaked her out hearing my voice. She lives a long way away.

I have fun........Janet

Our computer is for fun & personal use, too. Whatever works best and fastest, is o.k. by me, LOL! :D I have html option on Netscape and I like creating my own graphic design greetings or photos to insert, too. It's fun to be creative. :P Gypsy
