hard drive ?
| Mon, 10-18-2004 - 5:15pm |
I have a 20gig hard drive on my Gateway Computer. My DH has an external 80gig hard drive that he puts his MP3 stuff on. The problem is that he puts his MP3 stuff on my hard drive and doesn't bother to plug in his external hard drive. I was wondering how much of a pain it would be to move all my stuff to the external drive and leave the 20gig for his MP3 stuff. Can I just flip a switch and it will all move over? ROFL
Thanks in advance
Caroline

An external hard drive should be I think like a floppy drive your computer should see it as Drive F or G or whatever it was named. If you can see the drive you can drag anything to that drive you want. Or just move his MP3s over for him......lol...
Check in My Computer and you should see your Floppy (if you have one) your CD burner, and any other drive you have and you should see the external one.
If not let us know.......Janet
Have a nice day !.
Okay I checked it out.
I have A drive (floppy)
D (CD Drive)
E (CDRW Drive)
Does that make sense to ya?

I think if the external hard drive is plugged in it should show up as maybe an F drive or some other letter.
If you right click on one of the MP3s you should have a choice like Send to. And you can add that other hard drive to the choices. Then you can just highlight the MP3s right click on them, go to Send To and then choose that other hard drive.
Have a nice day !.
Hello again,
You do have to tell it where to go. Or if your computer can see that external you can drag the in there or right click and put that drive into the SEND TO menu http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;310270& just add what ever that drive letter would be maybe H or whatever you make it.

but isn't there a way not to choose a file path? Can't we make it the default for "My Music?"
This is one of those thing where I know what your talking about but I can't find what I am looking for. When I download a .wav it opens up My Music. But if I want to put that on a floppy I have to right click and "Send To".
There may be away to have it do and auto send to but I am not sure how. If he has 100 songs he wants to move he can highlight 1 then go to Edit , Select All and then right click on them and send them to the other drive all at once.
Sorry, guess I am having a brain freeze. Maybe someone will answer with something in the way of a default....

Have a nice day !.
Now that I have completely confused you, I wish you luck.

Thank you Janet and Ed, I printed your messages out and put them on DH's desk. Maybe I should buy him a new computer for Christmas. Now there's a thought.
Caroline
Thanks Ed, I thought the best way to get the music to that external was to do like a batch move, which should only take a couple seconds. At least then it would be safe and make room on the internal. I don't do music but I do pictures. Every once in a while I burn mine to disk and then delete them from the computer. Like cutting my arm off....lol.....But I am only about a quarter through all the photos I want to get scanned. And now that I have a digital camera, yikes, the scanning takes second place......and I really need to get that done.
But tomorrow here is supposed to be in the 70s so DH and I are headed to the Missouri river to get some last minute fishing done........lol..........Thanks again.Janet
Have a nice day !.
