Pop-up security alerts

All of a sudden I'm getting pop-up messages from (I forget) either Microsoft or Windows that say:

Security Bulletin ms03-043

Buffer Overrun could allow Code Execution 828035  Go to WWW.windowspatch.net

When I go there, it describes my problem and how to download the patch.  The patch costs $20.00.  Are these pop-up alerts legitamate?  I haven't gotten them for a couple of years.

Don't click on that Kathey.........

Your pop up stopper don't get that? If you need anything on your computer you will find it at the Microsoft Update site.......

Those pop ups could download all kinds of junk..........

Thanks Janet, I just got the same message but this time it tells me to go to www.updatenow.org.

I lost my yahoo toolbar with the pop-up stopper in it.

Still no, Microsoft don't update that way. Isn't your pop up stopper taking care of that nasty thing?

Everytime I use Acrobat reader it tells me that there is an update. I told it to update me but it still comes up but since I don't use that very often I will just keep saying no.....lol

My pop-up stopper was part of the Yahoo toolbar; now I don't know what happened to that.
