Just thought I'd take a poll of what web browser eveyone uses :) I bet most everyone uses Internet Explorer since it comes installed on many computers and because Microsoft dominates almsot every area of computer market. But did you know that there are other web browsers that you can use? FireFox (getfirefox.com) and Opera (opera.com) are two that are gaining popularity. I just switched my browser from Internet Explorer to FireFox and I llke the FireFox one more, although I'm still getting used to the interface.

I think the coolest thing about FireFox and Opera is that you can download themes/skins and change the look of the browser whenever you want. I currently have this really cute cat theme on my browser. The tabbed windows thing takes a little getting used to but I think it's better than having a lot of windows open at the same time and searching through the Windows task bar at the bottom of the screen for the window you want to view. FireFox has a built in pop-up ad blocker which is great because those ads are so annoying.

Just sharing my thoughts about FireFox :)

I have a Mac, but it still comes loaded with that crappy IE, LOL! Mac has it's own Safari, which is pretty nice, but still there are some settings it's missing that I have on my Netscape, so I installed Netscape onto my Mac when I switched from my old PC to a new Mac. I refuse to use IE and have boycotted it for many years because it has more security holes than swiss cheese, no matter how many updates you do... :-\ I started on Netscape back in '94 when you had to *buy* the program and haven't used much of anything else since. I have the current version, which is actually Mozilla, which Firefox is, also. In the Mac forums, Firefox is also well thought of because of it's security enhancements and ability to block popups and so forth. I would switch in a minute, but I don't want to lose all my settings in Netscape and also because DH has been "trained" on Netscape Messenger and freaks out whenever he has to learn a new program, LOL! :P

FireFox can import Internet Explorer bookmarks. I think it can also do it for Netscape bookmarrks so you won't have to manually add in all your bookmarks. The FireFox web site probbaly has info on that.

Internet Explorer does have a ton of sercurity and privacy flaws. In order to minimize the flaws, a user has to visit the Microsfot download web site every so often and download the newest security flaw fixes and updates. It's kind of a pain to do and many people don't realize that they have to check for security fixes and download them. And even though it's a popular browser, IE doesn't offer pop-up ad blocking or spyware blocking. I think the next version of IE should offer these two features as well as better security. Until then, I'll stick with FireFox and the cool features it offers :)

I have downloaded Firefox but I hate it. They said at first it is more secure than IE but I don't know about that. The speed is about the same. I can't go to some places that I can with IE.

Have a nice day !.

Did you know that Firefox has an extension you can download called IEview? It's for those older, out of date web sites that can only be viewed with IE. All you do is right click anywhere on the page that isn't displaying properly and select View this page with IE.

You don't have to use the tabbed browsing, either. I don't but I love everything else about Firefox. I haven't used IE in almost 3 years. I don't miss it and wouldn't ever go back. My kids found it hard to get used to Firefox so I keep the old Mozilla on the desktop and they use that. What they like about Mozilla is they can close up all the bars at the top and this gives them more room on runescape. I'm sure there are some skins with Firefox that will allow the same but I just haven't had the time to go hunting for them yet.
