Express Yourself Options on iVillage

I went to the try it out board and don't get any menu for the fonts and colors choices. I read in the extremely limited information link that for Macs or people who don't use IE (I avoid it like the plague and don't have it), but use Netscape or some other browser, they have to use html. I don't know html and it seems to me if I can't get the full package/service, why should I pay for it??? I posted questions on that board and it seems to be completely uninhabited as far as moderators who come in to answer questions. Maybe it's just the holiday weekend? I even sent a message to iVillage for support, and I got an inane email telling me to go to that board, EVEN THOUGH MY EMAIL INDICATED I WASN'T GETTING ANY ANSWERS ON THAT BOARD! I wrote back a bit impatiently, since it was obvious the person who answered didn't even bother to read my email to them first, but just sent a canned response (cut & paste with no brain input?!).
So, am posting here in hopes someone here can share some information or knows something. iVillage doesn't seem to want to bother answering my questions and the try it board is apparently a total loss also. I guess bottom line, I'll just keep my $30 and forget about it, LOL! :-\ If there's no tech support -- they take my money and run -- forget about it. Grrrrr....
Any input?

Just a note to let everyone know I finally got a straight answer from iVillage. I have to pay full fee but have to learn and do my own HTML to get fonts and colors and such. I just don't think it's worth the money to get half the service everyone else does. I'll stick to plain ol' text. :)

I only use IE and am one of the ones that have not had much trouble with it. But there is a board..... http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-phadvanced
Have a nice day !.
Thanks for the info. I basically found out that for Netscape and Mac users, we're just SOL (so out of luck) and have to pay full price, but learn HTML to get font and color options and so forth. I refuse to pay full price for half service, which is how I look at it, LOL! I don't know HTML and I don't even know what a "photobucket" is, I'm afraid. My questions and frustration came up because I *did* go to the Try It board. Nobody has even responded to my questioning posts! I don't think there are any regular CLs on that board. It *says* iV moderators check the board, but they aren't on duty as far as I can tell... :-\ I finally wrote iVillage feedback directly, and found out about having to know HTML to use the service. My DH was going to give it to me for a holiday gift, but I'm not going to bother since the program is so one-sided as far as browsers and use. If I have to go through all that I'd feel as though I was being ripped off if I purchased the service. $30 is a lot of money, IMO, to get something that won't work right for me. :-\ I'll just stick to the freebie text version! :P I can still enjoy posting on the boards and having my web site and such. :)
Thanks again,

Thanks, but as I just posted to Janet, I feel like I'd be ripped off to pay for a service that doesn't work right for me and I have to do all sorts of extra stuff to get it to work. As far as I'm concerned, that's iVillage's job and if they don't want to be flexible enough to accommodate more than one kind of browser, etc., I'll just skip it. :P I bought a Mac because PCs just got too user unfriendly and risky after 15 years, and I won't touch IE with a 10 ft. pole because it's swiss cheese as far as security is concerned, and a cheap copy of Netscape, to boot, LOL! (JMO.) It was a fun idea until I found out the details, anyway. I can still enjoy the site, and I will continue to do so. :)

I agree that IE has a lot of security holes in it.
Boy, I feel like I am either drugged or drunk. But I don't drink and I have finished my sinus/allergy drugs and since the head thing hasn't gone away I am just a little to the left the last few days.......I meant to put a link in the last post to Photobucket but I am still spacy.......sorry.

Thanks for your input. About this:
'Don't be lulled into a sense of security that you are free from viruses just because you have a MAC."
I don't. And so does Mac/Apple and they make sure it's available, plus an awesome firewall (no more ZoneAlarm, which protected my PC for years, bless 'em). Even Symantec/Norton has a Mac version. I'm not out in another galaxy just because I have a Mac... I also know I should have anti-virus in order to protect those people in my addy book that I forward stuff to, for example. While something may not harm my Mac, it could be sent out without my being aware because someone sent it to me, unawares, and it sits in my Mac, doing no harm, but would if sent to others with PCs. :-\ For me to not check and have anti-virus in check would be irresponsible, just as it is for anybody out there with an email addy book and a computer who does not have or does not update regularly their anti-virus programs on their PCs. We're all only as safe as all those people who send us stuff, and as responsible as we are ourselves. So, yes, I have a double firewall (Mac + router hardware firewall) plus an anti-virus program that I check for updates DAILY plus scan my system DAILY. I am paranoid because of my years on PCs, LOL! :P I've never had an infection yet, knock on wood! and I don't intend to! :[[
About IE, well I've used Netscape since '94 and I haven't run into a web site yet that won't work with it, especially since I keep it updated. So why put up with IE's risks when I haven't found it necessary?! Even PC World commended Netscape for having better security than IE! Maybe other people have run into problems because they go to different web sites than I've gone to, but I haven't found one in all the years we've had Netscape.
Buying a new Mac is not being left in the dust. It's a better quality computer, IMO, more user friendly, and awesomely powerful, with far better tech support than I had from major PC mfgs. over the years, with less breakdowns and cheap parts being used. JMO, LOL! :D Netscape is a better quality browser and email program, IMO, as well as also not nearly as vulnerable as Outlook and Outlook Express. I haven't checked out FireFox thoroughly as yet. I may give it a try, as it's supposed to be even more impervious than Netscape, and mountains above IE.
And considering iVillage is lagging behind in their flexibility in their Express Yourself package, which is what I started this thread about, LOL, they'd better be paying attention, too, LOL! I have other web sites I go to for discussion boards that have spell check, emoticons, you can use your signature and an avatar, attach photos, and so on -- for free -- and works with Netscape, Mac, you name it. So, I know such programs exist. It's just a choice iVillage made, as is their right to do, of course. I don't like it, and even if I still had a PC, I wouldn't be using IE, so the answer would still be the same for me. I don't need the special features enough to use a substandard insecure browser, IMO, such as IE. It's not a big deal; just disappointing is all. :( I just wanted to have a little fun "pretty-fying" my posts, but I can live without it. The "meat" that I come for is still to read what people write...and respond with my own posts, have conversations/discussions. :P
Just my two cents worth, too, LOL! We all have our personal preferences and put our money where our mouths are when it comes to our computer systems. However it is we choose to access the Net, it's a wondrous "place" to be! :P
Phew, I'm done, LOL! :D

Thanks for that website -- I can use it for other websites I mentioned in my other post just now, even if not here. :P It's funny that you mention IE and needing it for some sites, too, because in all these years since '94, I have never run across a web site where my Netscape wouldn't work well. I *do* keep it updated, though. Just lucky, I guess. :D

When I first heard that I was using Netscape and I didn't know what they were talking about. But I downloaded Firefox and I can sure tell with that one, some of the sites that I go to just don't come up or are not quite right. But if Firefox is the only one a person would use then they won't notice what they have never known. I don't think Netscape should be as bad as it used to be, it has been 5 years since I used it.....
