I went to the try it out board and don't get any menu for the fonts and colors choices. I read in the extremely limited information link that for Macs or people who don't use IE (I avoid it like the plague and don't have it), but use Netscape or some other browser, they have to use html. I don't know html and it seems to me if I can't get the full package/service, why should I pay for it??? I posted questions on that board and it seems to be completely uninhabited as far as moderators who come in to answer questions. Maybe it's just the holiday weekend? I even sent a message to iVillage for support, and I got an inane email telling me to go to that board, EVEN THOUGH MY EMAIL INDICATED I WASN'T GETTING ANY ANSWERS ON THAT BOARD! I wrote back a bit impatiently, since it was obvious the person who answered didn't even bother to read my email to them first, but just sent a canned response (cut & paste with no brain input?!).

So, am posting here in hopes someone here can share some information or knows something. iVillage doesn't seem to want to bother answering my questions and the try it board is apparently a total loss also. I guess bottom line, I'll just keep my $30 and forget about it, LOL! :-\ If there's no tech support -- they take my money and run -- forget about it. Grrrrr....

Any input?

"It took me about 1 minute to get used to DSL. "

LOL! :D My DD, whose has DSL with her roommate, can't imagine why it took us so long to get around to getting it! :P The price deal was finally right, so we made the jump! I remember when prices were much higher for dailup and the best deal around in the mid 90s was 30 hours for $30 until the price wars brought unlimited dialup at $19.95/month. I see a price war going on with DSL now, too, and combos with satellite TV and such, too. It's all good! Means more people can afford it! ;))

Bless that lady's heart! There is *never* a "dumb" question if you don't know the answer! :P I like it when people are open and supportive and give you the information without using the opportunity to talk down to you or belittle you because you don't know as much as they do. I have several friends who are scared stiff everytime they hit the wrong key on their computer and/or are afraid to call tech support if they have trouble with their ISP service *or* their compuer system, because they've been ridiculed by the techs in the past who were impatient and even rude. So they hope to find someone in their family or a somebody's older kid, who can help them, and live with problems and poor experiences because they become so intimidated. Bless that lady for not doing that to you! :))

When we first went online in '94, there was only Netscape and we had to *BUY* it in a computer store! LOL! Or, there was AOL (didn't like their all-in-one memory hog program), plus their service was WAY too expensive and something else, I can't remember, that was an all-in-one kind of set up, also. Delphi? Prodigy? and Compuserve... In the next few years ISPs that didn't provide browser or email programs, gave you FREE Netscape and it was THE program. Then Microsoft started it's monopoly attempts and embedding it in the Windows 95 platform when it came out (we started with Win 3.1, and *that* was a major step up from work, where I accessed all programs through DOS!). We got help from our family techie person who told us about Netscape, so we could buy any online ISP without having to put up with inflated programs like AOL, and from there we never looked back, LOL! :D

Being online has certainly been an adventure! I wouldn't trade it for anything! ;))

There are some women here in town that just got computers in the last couple years, one of them called me one day and said she needed help, I went to her house and she couldn't figure out why things were going screwy.....they really were fine but it was something she didn't know about. I told her when something is trying to overwhelm her click the x in the upper right hand corner take a breath and start all over. And she was not to be afraid to call me.

I never sit down in front of someones computer as much as they want me to.....I sit behind them and say click Start, etc..........if they don't do it themselves they won't learn. Well I was getting calls almost every day back then. Now they don't call me hardly ever.....lol.....

Hey, Gold Star to you! You ENABLED them to move forward, gain confidence and become comfortable with their computer, rather than fostering them to always be dependent upon you. I think that's awesome! I worked in an office a while back where the IT person made everything so complicated for the rest of the staff, they were scared to "save" a file! :-\ I came along as a secretary/graphic design person and they asked me and I did what you do, made *them* do it, standing behind them, so they'd learn how to do it themselves. The beam on a person's face was reward enough for helping them! :P The poor IT person was being run ragged because she wasn't skilled at enabling people or training. She was good with software and hardware, but not with people, in other words. Her job would have been much less hectic and demanding if she had learned how to enable.
