videocard hardware rendering

I tried installing a game for my son and a pop-up said that I need to update DirectX (I did that), and that my videocard needs to support hardware rendering. What is this?
TIA

Pardon me but I can't log in with my CL name so I will answer you without my hat.
Here is what rendering means
Hardware rendering is when the video card operates independent of the CPU, and utilizes motherboard ram in the same sequence. Software came with your graphics card that will instruct you on how to enable this feature. Please be aware that this proceedure may be several steps long. This step may also disable your monitor hence a blank screen, or askew your colors, poor quality screen. You should have a backup boot disk ready in the event that you have problems.
Only my opinion but if you have this high end graphics card it is best used in a high end PC equipped to handle such things.

Another thing you can try is diagnosing the computer with the DX tool. To do this, click start, run and type in dxdiag and ok. This will give you info about how the video card and DX are functioning.
