Why HTML in E-Mail is a Bad Idea

A web page I came across that I wanted to share:

http://www.birdhouse.org/etc/evilmail.html

It all came up because I was sending out a holiday greeting and wanted to use "fancy" fonts and colors along with the email graphic I had designed. Because my email program, Mail.app, is a Mac one, it doesn't have the html option, just something called rtf (Rich Text Format). It looks wonderful but only works with people who have the rtf capabilities in their email programs. So, I started posting on the Mac forum and investigating, and got this information from a techie type participant on the forum. I had no idea that HTML wasn't displaying exactly as I had designed my email, to everyone, even when they accept HTML emails and their email program will display them. :=O Because it applies to other OS and other email programs and discusses HTML, I thought it was worth sharing here.
