One Glitch in Huge Undertaking

I recently had a huge (to me) problem. I had been having some problems with my computer and had burned all my documents and pictures on a CD. Then the hard drive completely went. Since the computer is still under warranty, Gateway sent me a new hard drive. Fortunately Windows was already loaded on it. I was able to install that. Then I got reconnected to cable and next to AOL. I reinstalled my printer/scanner/copier, DVD player, and CD burner. I loaded the few programs I know I definitely want on my computer and basically it is working well.
I was able to copy my documents on to my new hard drive; however, for some reason I cannot copy my pictures. I get the message that the disk (same one as for documents) is read-only. Any suggestions? I use a lot of graphics and I spend a zillion hours collecting just the right thing for all sorts of uses. Some of them had my name.
I must have talked to about 20 tech support people before I was done. For the most part, I have a sense of accomplishment. I am retired with bad knees and a bum shoulder and worked under my desk -- where the CPU is set into its own cubbyhole -- with a flashlight in one hand and a screwdriver in the other!
Any idea of how I can retrieve my graphics and pictures?

Have a nice day !.
I am glad your problem is solved but I did have to laugh.......My DH got me a new computer desk a couple years ago for Christmas. It is a corner model with the raised platform for the monitor and all the cubbies on either side...I love it. When we went to set it in the corner I told him to leave it a ways away because that way there is a lot of room for this body to get under and behind there if I have to get behind the monitor and whatever. Also I could stick my had behind the CPU and plug things in easier if it wasn't so close... The problem is that when this old gal with the bad back is against the dark wall with a flaslight and a mirror because I forgot when I plug in the USB cables I really have to see which side they go into......most times I end up having to turn them over.....lol......not a pretty site. But I did find a good use for that little 12" mirror that the kids left behind.....then I had to remember that when I looked into it everything was backwards........lol.....Janet

LOL! :D What we go through for our computers, eh?! ;) My computer guru used to be so mad at us because we insisted on having the tower for the PC on top of the table and not under it. For one thing, there's dog hair and dust under there, for another, with bifocals you can forget about seeing anything! :-\ But, still, with everything sticking out the back, it's real pain to check hookups & all. One feature I have only come to appreciate just thinking about all that hassle, is that my eMac has all its ports ON THE SIDE! So much easier to see where I'm plugging in the digital camera cradle, the router and phone lines and so on. :D Now why don't they do that for the towers, too?! We're not all young techs with flexible bodies and 20/20 eyesight, for heaven's sake! :P
