Java & Windows Crash

I am taking an online class which requires some uploading to a question and answer section. When I would attempt to submit my answers, nothing would happen and I would get a small error message at the bottom of the page, saying JAVA something, errors on page. I made sure all the java applications were enabled in internet options and still got the same message. I tried to update at the Sun website. I'm using my aunt's computer and she has AOL. I tried to download the JAVA platform, after I put my computer thru Restart, Windows will not reboot. The computer didn't have XP, it has Windows 2000. Is there anything I can do besides using the recovery cd and making everything have to be reloaded. Thanks.

what happens when you try to reboot? Did you try using Last Known Good Configuration? Its a choice on the screen where you can get into safe mode. Here is a document describing how you get to this screen:

It sounds like Java isn't properly installed.
