DH just got his computer and can't hook to the internet.  It is reading a signal strong.  It says some kinda connection is connected and working properly but the other connection says cable unplugged and it is x'd out.  There is also a 3rd connection that says it is connected.  He still can't get online.  What do we need to do?  TIA

I would first check if your computer was assigned an IP address. Open up a command prompt, and type "ipconfig" and it should tell you your IP address and when you are behind a router it should be something like 192.168.1.100 or something similar. Also make sure your router has an IP address assigned to it from your ISP, go into the router config pages and see that it has an address. I have many time simple powered off my modem and my router and my computer and then powered up the modem all the way, then powered up the router all the way, then turn on the computer, in that order. Sometimes they need to be restarted in order to connect properly.

Did you get this resolved yet? I use a laptop and if I go wireless and I have to sign into my providers site first. You can call your provider for support and they'll walk you through it.

If you go into the Control Panel on her computer and then choose Network Connections it should show you if you have a wireless adapter installed. If you dont one there go back in control panel and choose system and then hardware and then device manager and look what in underneath Network adapters, see if there is a wireless device there.

When you get your computer it should just see any open connections and ask you if you want to connect to one or tell you if it needs a password..... Most all laptops now are WiFi ready out of the box......well you have to charge the battery first......lol.....

Once in a while when I turn on my laptop it will ask me if I want to connect to the internet using a neighbors connections I have to go tell it NO to use mine but other than that it works great......

I have a Dell. But I think all new laptops have wireless internet already.
