DH & I are confused why all of a sudden anytime we try to play a video you can't understand a thing because it sounds like an echo in a tunnel.  Very tinny sort of "distant" sound.  Essentially you can't PLAY videos, this is a brand new problem in just the past week.  Does this sound like a setting is off?  Haven't changed anything, but Dell's customer service guy had me do a lot of things last week when it crashed.  Everything else is greatly improved.

Is it like the volume is WAY low? Just a teeny voice coming out of the speakers? My son has that problem every time his batteries go dead in his speakers. Check if yours have batteries. If you don't have batteries, you could uninstall the sound driver and reinstall it. Hope this helps.

DH says they don't have batteries, they are the separate ones we had from our old computer.

there is also the possibility that your sound card software has different environment settings or effects. Things like where you can change it to give it echo, or concert hall effect, or whatever.

Yeah for example my motherboard has built-in sound, most computers do these days. Mine uses the Realtek brand sound circuitry. Intel makes its own too, as do some others. So when I bought my motherboard it came with drivers for the sound plus a small software program to control the sound. That includes a little equalizer to control bass and treble etc, and some effects you can apply to the sound to make it sound like a concert hall or to make it sound very flat, or several other effects like that.
