What do you think of this idea to increase availability of organs for transplant?
Instead of donating organs one would be required to op-out.
>"Speaking in a debate in the House of Commons, some called for a system of "presumed consent" to be introduced.
Under this system, doctors would presume that patients agree to donate their organs when they die unless they have expressly stated otherwise.
MPs said the change would boost the number of organs available for transplant operations. However, the government rejected the move."<
>"The Conservative MP said Spain had introduced presumed consent and had shown that it can increase the number of organs available for transplant.
He said the country had also shown that "presumed consent can be operated in a perfectly sensitive way". "<

>"Liberal Democrat MP Dr Evan Harris, a former hospital doctor and chair of the All Party Parliamentary Kidney Group, said: "The current laws lead to a triple tragedy.
"It's a tragedy for the hundreds of patients dying unnecessarily while waiting for organs, a tragedy for the vast majority of potential donors who suffer a lack of respect for the wishes of - and far too often have their organs buried with them or cremated instead of being used to save or transform lives.
"And it's a tragedy for grieving relatives who are put upon by being expected to second guess the wishes of their loved ones or make their own decision at the height of their pain, many of whom later regret not agreeing to donation.""<

It's MY body, whether I am alive or dead. How dare anyone cannibalize another without
their consent. Dr. Harris, who quoted above, is the one who lacks any respect. I'll
bet he's a pro-choicer, too.
