WOW!  I guess I'm surprised Martha Stewart was found guilty on all four counts.  I figured she'd get a slap on the wrist, at most.   Anyone think she'll do jail time?   Is this a *good thing* ?

seems to me the jury is jealous they didnt do the same thing if they could have. we all know they would have done the same thing if they were told it was going to drop...

my support to martha :( i'll still be buying her products at kmart if they will still have her, which i hope they do.

Although Martha's commercial image is a little "peanut butter and jelly" for my liking, I do admire her as a person because she has never been afraid to go after what she wants. Concering her conviction, I find it to be a blow to women everywhere. What her conviction says to me is that any woman who makes it to the top will not be there long.

First, I would like to note that people are generally convicted for cover-up crimes when the prosecution does not have a strong case for the criminal conduct itself. There is little proof that she approved the selling of stock based on inside knowledge, so this is why the prosecution only convicted her for the false statement. Moreover, I think that there is a 50% chance that she would have told the lie regardless of whether or not she committed the actual crime because the situation was so incriminating in the first place and she didn't want her reputation damaged further. Anyway, I don't think that the prosecution had a very strong case against her concerning the sale of stock itself.

As far as the cover-up, I think that the public perception of her weighed in heavily on the juror's minds when they decided to convict. I don't think that celebrities should get special treatment by the justice system, but I believe that she was judged more on her celebrity image than on the evidence, which is equally unfair. I just think that if this had been some corporate male, this would not have been pursued at all, much less convicted.

I am thinking about bringing a suit against George Bush because his lie has done a hell of a lot more harm than Martha's, but his false statement has been brushed under the rug. Maybe if Martha had been one of the "good old boys" she would have gotten off. Oh, the irony!

What ever happened to the Tyco executive? (this is just one example) Was he publicly persecuted for what he did? No, and what he did was far worse than what Martha allegedly did.

Considering the fact that male executives engage in this type of activity to protect their financial futures. It supprises me that Martha Stewart is being treated more harshly than top male executives would be given the same circumstances. In addition, the rich gain and keep their wealth by having great financial advisors and tax professionals as well as close contacts to the corporate movers and shakers of the world. Did somebody have it in for Martha? I wonder.

I feel that the woman in the corporate world, which Martha is, have a much harder time when they find themselves in hot water. Remember OJ Simpson? He was accused of murdering his x-wife but was set free. Martha is being stomped into the ground and I believe that it is because she is a woman in the corporate world. If Oprah steps out of line sometime down the road, the same thing will happen to her. Any high profile female is under attack. Most of the high profile men get set free. Go figure!

On something as serious as this,I bet she will end up doing some jail time. But the reality of the whole thing is so stupid .When you look at other stories and topics that are far more horrendous I can't understand why some people get away with crimes while others don't.Is it the economic situation of a person?Or the news that the media can milk out of the story? You know this system is so different that I could see when someone committed a serious crime such as killed someone or molested a child or whatever, that it seems like those are the ones that they could care less on punishing and yet when some woman lies about something ,which most everyone does lie.Its amazing how this system works.I think this was some form of set up to get rid of a woman who has accomplished quiet alot in life, she started a business and it skyrocketed, and I think the big boys didn't want to see that happen. She was totally independant and successful at that. But I still will say it had to do with the men she was aquainted with and how much they new about her.As she them,So what better way to get rid of her than to put her in a position to humiliate her and make her feel less like a successful woman than to toss her to the dogs and not care a thing about how much she has accomplished in the positive light in general. Why doesn't stuff like this happen to Oprah or other people in power, especially the men?You ever notice how much men get away with things in todays society? Its as if women have no chance at all in succeeding at whatever they want or accomplish out of life in general, its as if they are suppose to be quiet and just have babies and accept what life has tossed at them and not even question why things are the way they are.And as for the desires that they want to achieve there is always something keeping them back, but only a certain type of women.Take for instance if a woman who applies herself the more she runs into obstacles in general, whether it be her own family,or outside influences,If she doesnt' have the support backing her ,there is no way she can get ahead, but if a man stands up and supports her in her beliefs and showers her with his support then all of a sudden other people listen and believe. But if she is alone,it is a difficult road to drive. That alone will keep a person from trying and knowing how unjust this system is and know that it is decided on what men think and how clickish people are.So where is the equality there? Is it set up so only married people get ahead? As for the single parents or single people in general where is there rights in all of this? Why do you have to get married in order to be successful? So here is this woman who is basically all by herself in a pool of sharks circling around her and waiting to attack, and she is the one that it doesn't matter if she is white/black/ethnic if she isn't up to par with the guys they don't want her they want to see her suffer and feel pain instead. So she has to experience the humility of having to get caught, the ridicule that goes along with going from high up to the bottom.I like to think of it as being raped over and over through the years of humility only to find defeat at the end of the tunnel, just to wake up and begin the whole thing again. That is just not right for anyone.
