Martha Stewart Guilty!

WOW!  I guess I'm surprised Martha Stewart was found guilty on all four counts.  I figured she'd get a slap on the wrist, at most.   Anyone think she'll do jail time?   Is this a *good thing* ?

I don't get it, with all the money she was bringing in, why was she so stupid???? She deserves what she got. The problem is I doubt very seriously that she will actually do "hard time" in jail. I can't feel sorry for the stupid or greedy.

Ok, I'm going to weigh in on this subject. Everyone keeps bringing up the OJ situation, how he got away with murder. We all know in probability that he did it or at least had someone do it. The fact of the matter was, it was not PROVEN beyond a shadow of a doubt. Too many inconsistancies and sloppy police work turned this particular case. That is what the jury is instructed to make their decision on. Ms. Stewarts case was different in that the evidence was more convincing, from the testimony of her friends, from Fanueil, from the actual buyers note itself. Jurors are people just like you and me. They are the ones in that court room for 2,3,4 months and see a lot more than we do. I think her lawyers made a mistake by not letting her take the stand and give her side of the story. The publics' perception of her is that she is a cold, calculating woman who would sell out her own mother for power. If the jury had heard from her, a human element would have been introduced and the outcome could possibly have been different. I think the jury saw the defense only presenting 1 witness and put on a 1 hour defense as somewhat arrogant. Sometimes the coverup is worse than the crime itself and that is what the prosecution was trying to show. Its true that this type of business is done a lot, more than any of us not in those circles know. The fact is, she got caught and now has to be the example for those who do it frequently.

I think the verdict was wrong,I don't know anyone who wouldn't have done the same as she.I feel like it was just a bad verdict.

I'm not going to say what Martha Stewart did was right, we should all follow the law no matter who we are. But at the same time because of who Martha Stewart is, there is going to an added element to it, all the extra hype and media. My concern, is that I'm positive there are others out there with just as much money who have done the same thing Martha did, but haven't got caught. I actually feel bad for Martha Stewart, I wonder how many of us if we were really honest with ourselves would have acted on that tip if we had that kind of money to invest, I'm not saying it's right, I just think it's human nature.

MS created much of the media interest herself..... the interview with Barbara Walters, which was repeated last night on 20/20; interview with Larry King; publicizing her web site ect.

IMO she was arrogant thinking she wouldn't be caught

They already tried to knock Oprah down. Remember when she was sued for simply saying that the mad cow crisis had "Stopped her cold from eating another burger!". She was sued for stating her opinion because they claimed that her comment caused some drop in their industry or something. Anyway, that case should have never made it to trial but it did. Thank goodness she won the case but it goes to show you that if you are on top they will try to knock you down. I think Martha really had a hard time because she was considered "Miss Perfect" and people were happy to see that she was not so perfect afterall.
