Martha Stewart Guilty!

WOW!  I guess I'm surprised Martha Stewart was found guilty on all four counts.  I figured she'd get a slap on the wrist, at most.   Anyone think she'll do jail time?   Is this a *good thing* ?

I think she should obey the laws and she wouldn't be in trouble.

Not that I'm a big fan of Martha Stewart, but don't you think that it's a little unfair to her that in all likelyhood the jury was biased from the beginning. How could they not be. Who didn't have at least some opinion of Martha Stewart before this fiasco? And I doubt any Martha fans were chosen in the jury selection. What she did was wrong, of course, but it seems more a dumb mistake on her part. If she had called her lawyer from the beginning she would probably have never made false statements, since he would have told her to stay silent about everything. And come on, if your stock broker (who knows a hell of a lot more about the rules and regulations of trading than you do) tells you to sell your stock, who is going to say..."Wait, let me check and make sure it's totally legal." In situations like that, you would listen to people who are supposed to know the loopholes and pitfalls. It is also unfair to compare her to Enron, Enron effectively stole people's retirement maliciously, and was much more aware of the consequences of their actions on the "little man." She deserves to be fined of course, and to be fined in such a way as to make it hurt, but prison is somewhat unfair. Also take in to account that she most likely will now lose her excutive position of the company SHE BUILT. That seems a little bit of bullsh*t. Love her or hate her, there are many more things done by celebrities that deserve a harsh punishment than being stupidly arrogant.

I do agree with you on all counts. The thing I am most distressed about is Martha putting her assistant in such a position. I feel so sorry for the assistant; she must feel both the betrayer and the betrayed. I think Martha has great ideas, has imparted them to millions of women and men, but there is a nasty, greedy side to her that surfaced in all this. I don't care if it was $100 she invested and was going to lose--the fact that she was "above the law" sticks in my craw. It doesn't matter if her stockbroker gave her the inside tip or not--the fact that she acted on it, changed a memo and involved her assistant is chutzpah!

Well lets not forget, she changed the memo (which i can certainly imagine is a VERY human response), but also changed it BACK because she realized her mistake.

Listen, what Martha did was wrong, but I think it is awefully disengenious of you to say that you would have let yourself lose a quarter of a million dollars because you were given a tip by the stock broker that you shouldn't have.

I personally cannot believe she did it she is loaded she has her own buisness I feel she got greedy to bad I did enjoy her home ideas and products now I am just disappointed I hope she doesnt do alot of jail time she should just get probation how many people have killed people drinking and driving and they didnt do jail time? I think community service would embarrass her enough .....jail.... is kind of hard for her at her age I must say I do feel bad for her she should have known better.

I am glad to see that MS is guilty, she has always had a high minded attitude! Maybe this will cut her down to size. AND to think...K-Mart is still going to carry her line of stuff. That is one reason I don't shop at K-Mart, and I certainly will not buy anything with her name on it!
