Excuse me but isn't this stealing?

>" A year after the U.S.-led invasion toppled Saddam Hussein's government in Iraq, items touted as having come from Saddam's palaces have turned up for sale on the auction Web site eBay.

The seller of one secondhand rug lists the previous owner of the roughly 6-by-9-foot piece of carpet as ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.

Customers can also bid on silverware embossed with the Iraqi army's crest and a copy of the Koran, the Muslim holy book, which is purported to be from a Baghdad compound.

A spokesman for U.S. Central Command told CNN that U.S. troops should have been prohibited from bringing such items home from Iraq. But the men selling the items say they had no trouble bringing them back."<

>" "We went through about 15 or 20 different palaces," he said. In one, "There were 15 rugs there, and every one of us grabbed one and we took them."

Another Iraq war veteran, Brian Cramer, is asking $150 for a Koran he said he found in one Baghdad compound. "<

>"  He's also offering silverware from an Iraqi palace for sale.

He said he brought home numerous items from the palaces, including crystal and a teapot with a woman's figure inlaid in colored glass -- "different little things I thought would be nice to take home to the wife." "<

I dont know about the rules governing this, but at the least, it is a bit distasteful.

The most polite thing I can say is that I find it disgusting and mercenary.

Why were American military allowed to pillage Iraq? That's like robbing dead bodies. Ugh! There's a thought. Maybe some did. I was just listening to CNN where either a reporter or an officer saw a soldier taking something from a dead body and cautioned him that "we don't do things like that". Didn't they understand that they were stealing from the Iraqi people? Didn't a couple of reporters get caught bringing Iraqi "souvenirs" into the country? Weren't they punished for it? Double standard? Why isn't the federal government confiscating these things and returning them to the Iraqi people?

War is ugly. It's dehumanizing. It brings out the worst in people as well as the best. I imagine it all depends on the innate goodness or badness in each of us.

This truely gives a bad name to a good cause. War is very ugly no matter what your stance on the issue, but I have been 1000% for this war since the very beginning. This, though,is more than just tasteless. It is steeling from the victims of this whole tragedy. We went there, not only to serve justice on those responsible for 9/11,but to bring justice for a battered and broken nation. How does this bring justice? I think that any money obtained from the selling of these "war trophies" should be converted to Iraqi currency and shipped right back to where it belongs. Those people deserve it for what was stolen from them by that animal.

Why is Ebay allowing this?
