God is not a good thing when it constantly separates and alienates people - the world would be a better place if man had never made it up in the first place. "Under God" should be taken out of the pledge so it will once again be in its original form - its an allegience oath for loyalty to our country and it's flag - not to God. I know our founding fathers came to this country to avoid religious persecution blah blah blah but times have changed and the face of this nation no longer reflects just one religion so rather than continuously antagonize the opposition by rubbing their noses in it why not resolve the issue for what it is instead of acting like its such a big deal. People who need to pray to God every day dont need to do it in school - thats what churches are for.

I reluctantly voted indifferent, though I would have preferred a box for doing away with that archaic loyalty oath entirely. As a patriotic exercise to start the school day, it is a mind numbing recitation, teaching nothing new. As an oath, some people of faith (like Jehovah's Witness) cannot recite it because their loyalty is to their God, not any creation of humankind. Wouldn't it be so much more enriching to share the stories and quotes of all who have shaped this country than mumbling a set group of words?

Good point! I didn't go to school in this country so wasn't subjected to this exercise. Though,

I can understand that people become irate with the phrase "under God" in the pledge but the sad thing is that this country wants to erase all religious public acts due to serious offense. Take for example mentioning religion in school is a terrible offense. I don't mind it being taken out of the pledge but there are so many other circumstances that is now forbidden. Soon no one will be able to express any religious justification, and no not every religious person is set out to "warp your mind" they just want to express freely without offending someone. I am religious, my husband is religious and we are interfaith. We don't try to convert one another but we do understand each other's beliefs and give the other the right to express. I just wish the rest of the world could live in that kind of harmony. That's my thought on it all.
