Bomb Found on Spanish Train
Friday, April 02, 2004

MADRID, Spain — Spanish police found explosives Friday on a high-speed rail line between Madrid and Seville, Interior Minister Angel Acebes (search) said.

A train employee discovered a suspicious bag on the train and authorities called in a bomb squad, which determined the bag had 22-24 pounds of dynamite, 20-30 feet of cable and a detonator, officials said.
The train line was stopped and remains frozen, keeping 10 trains at a standstill on the rails.
The discovery follows the March 11 series of explosions on four Madrid (search) commuter trains that killed 191 people.
Fox News' Michael Moffett The Associated Press contributed to this report.

>"The government has said 23 million Spaniards were to travel over the coming week as they begin Easter vacation. Railway officials haven't set a time to restart traffic on the line, said a spokeswoman for Renfe, the train operator. She declined to be named. "<
March 11th blast:
>"Arrest warrants were issued yesterday by Spanish authorities for six suspects in connection with the bombings, including a Tunisian alleged to have led the group that planted the explosives. At least 23 people already are being held, including two Syrians, two Indians, two Spaniards and several Moroccans."<
>"Spanish police yesterday detected and disarmed three letter bombs addressed to the offices of a radio station, a newspaper and a television station in Madrid. "<
