I am happy to see that we are doing something!

FALLUJAH, Iraq - Hundreds of U.S. and Iraqi troops in tanks, trucks and other vehicles surrounded the turbulent city of Fallujah on Monday ahead of a major operation against insurgents blamed for the grisly slayings of four American security contractors last week.

U.S. commanders have been vowing a massive response to pacify Fallujah, one of the most violent cities in the Sunni Triangle, the heartland of the anti-U.S. insurgency north and west of Baghdad.

Does anybody believe the administration will take the advise? This administration wants to control Iraqi despite its rhetoric. What is disturbing is that many Iraqis recognize that the turnover will be a performance for the American election. Bah humbug

Perhaps in his eyes, but not in the eyes of the UN resolutions that he was in severe violation of.

I see your point that by gaining the adulations of his people, and being looked upon as a hero for defying the UN, he fed into his already huge ego, and why would he want to end that?

I would not say that they have always hated us.

There may be some envy, and perhaps a little resentment by some, but as far as the majority go, I would say that they are more ambivilent to us than show us hatred.

That was basically the point I was trying to make when I was told that "the Germans have always hated us".

I was over there nearly 30 years ago and their attitudes towards us were just as haughty then as they are now. My ears and eyes were open then and they are open now and I understand perfectly how we are seen. One of the differences between you and me has to do with worrying about correcting their misconceptions. I don't have any desire to do that. I think they are free to feel any way they like about us. Live and let live.
