I am happy to see that we are doing something!

FALLUJAH, Iraq - Hundreds of U.S. and Iraqi troops in tanks, trucks and other vehicles surrounded the turbulent city of Fallujah on Monday ahead of a major operation against insurgents blamed for the grisly slayings of four American security contractors last week.
U.S. commanders have been vowing a massive response to pacify Fallujah, one of the most violent cities in the Sunni Triangle, the heartland of the anti-U.S. insurgency north and west of Baghdad.

You may disagree but I've always been taught that respect is earned & then given...not beaten into & then taken by force.
Why should we have any expectation that they will 'obey'?
There are 5 million citizens in Iraq. Most of the are *happy* we freed them from this tyrant. There are a few violent finatics that MUST be dealt with.
As far as weapons of mass destruction are concerned - How can you say they never existed??? He has USED weapons of mass destruction. That means *they existed* or he would not have been able to use them. By the same logic I suppose you could claim that Osama Bin Laden never existed, either. After all we are unable to find him now. It doesn't matter that there is proof that he existed in the past, does it?

Exactly. I thought the piece about exactly what lynchings are was very insiteful.
Keep in mind that in Fallujah it's mostly Baathist leaders who are cuasing problems there. They are not religously or even politcially motivated. These aren't the guys who are killing themselves (although they are collaborating with them). They are reacting out of fear because they have lost their favored status in Iraq and are frightened that the Kurds & Shia are going to dominate the new Iraq & pay them back for 40 years of oppression. The public lynching was a call to others who feel the same way, but have been too timid to act out against the coalition.
One of the things we have learned over the last year is that the Baathist system was completely based on payoffs & bribes--not ideology, loyalty, or anything else. That is going to be good for us, because after we round up these dead enders in Fallujah, the rest of the citizenry, will start behaving, no matter how grudgingly, because they will want to make sure that they get their share of the the jobs and largess we'll soon be handing out, and they'll also want to be part of the new government.

ROTFLOL!
Are you serious??? Do you know why we invaded Iraq???
Hmmm....because of WMD?...or was that because of those supposed 'ties' to al Qaeda?...or was it to free the Iraqi people from Saddam?...there have been numerous reasons given each time the current reason has proven to not hold water.
