Gun victim's dad wore son's shoes to NRA meeting.
A man whose son was killed in the Columbine High School shootings literally walked in his child's shoes to the National Rifle Association convention, where he hoped Vice President Dick Cheney would address the federal assault weapons ban set to expire in September.
Tom Mauser, whose son Daniel was killed with an assault weapon in the Littleton, Colorado, killings five years ago Tuesday, said continuing the ban is common sense.
Assault weapons "are the weapons of gangs, drug lords and sick people," Mauser said before his three-block march to the convention, which runs through Sunday. "It is a weapon of war and we don't want this war on our streets."
Mauser challenged Cheney to speak about extending the ban when the vice president delivered the convention's keynote address Saturday night. More..........

It does not appear to have worked.

Also, the one major flaw with any gun control law is that the criminals do not care what the law says, and will be able to get their hands on any weapons they want regardless.

The only thing that laws of this nature due is prevent the law abiding citizen from purchasing a gun.

I personaly dont think that the average american needs to own an automatic weapon, but putting a law in place is not going to stop the criminals from using them.

The only thing that may help deter violent crime is to strengthen and uphold the current laws on the books with regards to violent crime.

For instance, if you commit a crime using a gun, it should automatically carry an additional 5 or 10 years (without parole) to your sentence. If you shoot someone during the course of a crime, without killing that person, you should automatically be sentenced to life. (attempted murder)

I, too, have three thoughts:

1) Why does anyone tied to any campaign speak at political rallies? Votes perhaps?

2) The fact that supporters yell to vote for their favored candidate speaks volumes about them in the first place

<>

3) To which average Americans are you referring? I am not aware of average Americans keeping arsenals of assault rifles.

How about MoveOn and Soros...how do you explain FOREIGN donations (talk about sidestepping campaign finance laws)? How do you explain the Dems/lib allowing foreign monies to determine a US election? Dems/lib decry US involvement in financially supporting foreign governments/regimes. Why is it now acceptable for foreigners to determine the outcome of our elections?

My mistake. You are correct. He was naturalized sometime in or shortly after 1956.

I agree. And add to that unions, some questionable environment groups...

If you made a listing, the listing would be so long, you would need to hire a large staff to keep up with it.

Well, with the 1st being squashed by campaign finance reform laws they felt compelled to do something which would enable them to still get the word out on firearms issues, regardless of how close to the election it may be. And given that various 527 (like Move-On, etc) organizations are getting away with the equivalent of "Campaign Finance Law murder", it shouldn't be unexpected that relatively conservative groups would find some way to exist along the same lines.

Could be interesting, but I'll have to wait and see.

I am a member of the NRA but this sounds about as appealing as watching a rash heal.

If they plan on alternate programming for the TV such as coverage of the IPSC matches, or other shooting events, then it may be a bit more interesting. To watch hours of people talk about the need to stop gun control efforts, well, to me, I would watch for about 10 minutes (if that long).

LOL Exactly!

>"shooting events"<

Don't they have those on TV? Our cable carries 20 or more sports channels.

Catch my DH watching those fishing competitions.
