Should Bush apologize on Arab TV?
Bush to address Iraqi prisoner abuse on Arab TV.

President Bush will give interviews to two Arab television networks Wednesday about reports of U.S. military personnel abusing Iraqi prisoners, the White House said.

White House spokesman Scott McClellan said the 10-minute interviews with Al-Hurra, a U.S.-sponsored network, and Al Arabiya will take place about 10 a.m. ET (1400 GMT) in the Map Room at the White House.

"This is an opportunity for the president to speak directly to the people of Arab nations and let them know that the images that we all have seen are shameful and unacceptable," McClellan told reporters during a Bush campaign tour.

Referring to photographs that have surfaced showing Iraqi prisoners being abused McClellan said, "The images do not represent what America stands for, nor do they represent the high standards of conduct that the military is committed to uphold. The U.S. believes in treating all people with dignity and respect."

Asked why Bush would not meet with the Arab network Al-Jazeera, McClellan would only say the other two networks "reach a wide range of people in the Middle East."

McClellan said the actions of the accused soldiers at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq "do not represent what 99 percent of the men and women in the military stand for." (Full story)

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld said Tuesday that he would take "all measures necessary" to ensure that abuse of detainees in Iraq "does not happen again."

Rumsfeld defended the Defense Department's handling of the matter in the face of congressional criticism, noting that a criminal investigation by the Army was under way and publicly disclosed three months before what he called "deeply disturbing" photographs were broadcast last week.

"This is a serious problem, and it's something the department is addressing," he said at a Pentagon news briefing. "The system works. The system works."

Rumsfeld said the criminal investigation was one of six launched since January.

I think that you and Minni should go to your local library, and get out as many books as you can carry. Books, that can tell you all about American history, especially the last few decades. You will find out WHO trained Osama Bin Laden, WHO gave Saddam the weapons of mass destruction...etc...etc.

I have not read all 200+ posts on this thread but I have read enough of the

beginning posts to be angered and sick to my stomach.

I bet that we won't hear much outrage out of these people about the beheading of a

young American man. The terrorists sawed off his head while he screamed.

These terrorists that were posed naked were not quilty of parking tickets but

killing Americans.

At the time the pictures were taken, there was a large increase

in American deaths and the miltary was trying to find out why.

And had Clinton not cut the military budget back in the 1990s, we would undoubtably

have more officers to supervise the troops and this "abuse" wouldn't have happened.

I use to be a democrat but how can any thinking, moral person justify being one??

I suggest you do the same instead of sitting high on some kind of imaginary pedastool you put yourself on. If you solved the problems and you have all the answers why aren't you in the news or better yet running for President? Are you Canadian? Should that explain any of this hostility. Blame it on the oil if you wish but it's a whole lot more complicating then that. I know the US funded WOMD to those idiots...what does that mean then when those "idiots" decide to use them on us? Even after the US and the Un said get rid of them...do countries not make mistakes? Does yours? What's the basis for your nice "band wagon" oil theory? Why don't you post support to the oil theory you are the one who is so educated right?

<<<Unbelievable. The cold blooded brutal murder of one of your countrymen is more acceptable to you than the embarrassment of some America-hating insurgents.>>>

Nice fiction - but it's yours, not mine.

The men who viciously mudered the American were not part of an occupying force that promised to "liberate" the people of the country.

<<<Doesn't it annoy you that some people refuse to see any connection with 9/11 and Iraq (Saddam Hussein)? >>>

OK, I'll play.

Amazing isn't it? Many people believe there's a connection because it was implied.

I didn't even finish reading your "proof" because I have my own...Saddam Hussien had terrorists along with extremeists whose sole mission is to remove the US, their enemy. Bush stated the war on terrorism and all who harbor. Saddam was not suprisingly one of the first on the list. I don't think it's quite that hard to understand really.

I also find it interesting your reference is from a democratic website/news standpoint.

You can read what you want or you can read wihtout bias.
