Hey guys,

Thanks for compliments. Our network was down and so I was not able to comment on anything. Also This week I am kind of busy but I thought I will atleast acknowledge everyone who posted.

Btw, I live in Plano Texas, DFW area. moved to US in 1991 from India. My parents and all my relatives still live in India except my SIL who lives in VA here. I saw all this changes in India during my last visit in Jan 2003. I support free market because it has created numerous jobs. Previously, graduates with Masters degree had to make living by driving AutoRickshaw(a three wheeler scooter type transportation which you rent like a cab in NY). or work as a peon in office. I think it has also hcreated job for blue collar workers because of all the factories that have been started by the Americans corporations. I cannot see how open market can be bad. It also keeps the prices in check for the consumers, so they get their money's worth. I cannot see how more competetion can harm anyone. Previousky their was only one or two companies that would market appliances. So consumers had very little choice and prices were exorbitant. We didnot have a refrigerator in house till I got in 10th grade. Even after that we could afford only becasue my Dad went to France for traiing in Digital telephony and made some money because he got paid in Francs. Now you will hardly see a house in the cities without a refrigerator. this is just an e.g. So I see this as progress in the right direction.

The guy who made lot of money is for himself on land trasactions . The curruption is still very high everywhere. If you heard the latest news, Sonia has declined to be the PM. As I said all internal fights that started. But I am okay. The person nominated Manmohan singh, I think is pretty strong.I think they made the right decision. You are right about free electricity being the promise which won't be kept. But poor people in India are very innocent. They cannot understand that. They are not aware of any foreign policies or US Indo relations etc. They don't care. But most of the poeple hate US because they didn't keep the promises made to India for hte support in Afghanistan war. My Dad included. It is so hard for me to convince him that people in US are very nice, it is just the politicians. He also asks me if people in US are aware of all the double standards US govt inflicts on other countries. Compared to India US political party has lot more integrity. I told him that and he was impressed.

The main difference between a US politician and Indian Politician is that to a great extent US pol. works for the good of the citizen where as an Indian pol. works to make money for himself under the table. Some make lot more than others.SO I would vote for the one who makes less. Hopefully one day it will be better.

I agree capitalism is the best economic system. And indeed it has much self regulation. However, as the US learned at the turn of the century, unregulated capitalism can be terrible for the poor. Laborers learned to form unions so they could bargain collectively with the businesses. We also learned that legislation was needed to regulate some unfair trade practices of businesses. Every system has its bad points, because human nature is not totally "good". Government practices have swung toward more neo-liberal regulations of business so business has more power than workers.

I smiled when I read <>

Under the table deals also occurin the US, but we have laws that frown on corruption--both corporate and governmental. So corruption exists "hidden from sight", because if we see we must do something about it. As humans, we are all very much alike.

agree 100%.

Actually India has laws too but when the top officials are corrupt it is very hard to bring anyone to justice. I admire how CEO's are put in jails here for their misdeeds and everyone is answerable over here.

At least India hasn't gone the way of Indonesia and the Philippines. Those countries have been left in very bad financial straits while the corruptors have escaped.
