Electric rat trap kills Vietnamese teenager 13/06/2004 21:11:24

A Vietnamese teenager has died after stepping on an electric rat trap while walking in the dark.

The 17 year old, from An Giang province, stumbled over a stone and stepped on electric cables rigged around a rice paddy to catch rats.

Police say he died instantly.

They say electric rat traps are illegal but they are the cheapest way to protect crops from rodents and thieves.

____________

Why post this? Because I found the idea of electric rat trap new. Second, after my experience in Bali with rats the size of large cats, I realized that the American concept of rat traps is insufficient. The world does need a better rat trap. My son has a dog that catches the rats. The cat is afraid of the creatures. :-)

<<>"Bali with rats the size of large cats"< I always imagined Bali to be a paradise.>>

That's in the tourist areas! Unfortunately, I get to see where the "real people" live. It causes cultural shock, particularly when I wanted to call an exterminator for the rats.
