"...and this country is really in the mood for somebody to tell ’em what they should think, what to do.”

That's exactly what democrats want--to tell the American people what we should think and what we should do. Unbelievable, he just gave away their secret! I'm glad I can think for myself, thank you.

And how about the celebrity turnout for the premiere? Not a real shocker to see Martin Sheen, Demi Moore, Drew Barrymoore, et al excited to be there. And how about Camryn Manheim who was also there, quoted, "A lot of us look to Michael Moore to uncover the real truth." ROFL.

*sigh* These people...

"This was a safeguard put in by the founding fathers who not only saw the masses as ignorant but wanted to prevent a few states from controlling the top office in the land."

isn't that kind of insulting to americans? People are ignorant, and 'states' are more important? Isn't it all about the citizens?

But I don't think the 'illegal' comment was about that aspect. It was probably about the actuall illegal acts committed. But as of yesterday, I gather those lists of people excluded will become public, and a company has now pleaded guilty to jamming democrat's phone lines so that people could not get rides to go vote.

"This phenominom exists at both ends of the political spectrum."

I totally agree.

Like those adoring fans of Bush who think he can do 'no wrong'. I certainly have read my share of posts from people claiming to be 'staunch republicans'. Nothing wrong with that, which is why I am so puzzed by that comment about saying that one is a democrat. should be changed to 'independent thinking' or something like that. Odd..Maybe I missed something. Oh well..

What political gain?? Seems to me this (Iraq) has had the opposite effect.

BTW: the "essential truth" is that Moore is an avid Socialist (Communist?) and Bush is an avid Capitalist. Both tend to run to their excesses .... but if I have to choose, then ...

Good article.

>"Mr. Moore's greatest strength is a real empathy with working-class Americans that most journalists lack.",

ITA! I've only seen one of MM's movie but I came away with that. He's from a working class background in an industrial area. I can relate to this having lived, in my formative years, in an industrial part of Britain. Most men were skilled,

"How the public feels about iraq and how they feel about our troops are two seperate issues."

Exactly!

Of course. But the volunteers had a choice. They accepted the risk in return for the rewards.

Which reminds me ... I deplore the underfunding of the military (the posts on flak jackets, etc.) .... but that predates the current administration. And, at the end of the day, it's Congress who approves the Budget.

BTW2 (to save space) .... we can do without the adhominum "people who support Bush make me sick" stuff. For one thing, it makes us consider the source ... that is, anyone who stoops to that sort of language probably isn't worth listening to.

Now, if we want to bring some boys (and girls) home, how about South Korea? Bosnia?

"I think it an insult that people are asked to shut up questioning their govenment when the reason our young men and women are dying is to give the iraqi's the very privaleges we hold so dear."

Ahh...but I never said to "shut up", but in my original post did talk about people spewing negativity everywhere. Please, by all means, contact your congressman, express your views, but rather than demeaning the job that, at this point, the service people have no choice but to do all over message boards, television, newspapers and magazines, send your message of discourse to your government officials and send your message of "we love you and pray for your safe return" to your troops.

"Well troops are demoralized, but that is because they keep getting told their tour of duty will be over soon and they get redeployed, or they are told they cannot retire, lack equipement, are tired, and the people they are helping them hate them."

Getting redeployed, having retirement postponed and other situations are part of being in the military. Service people know that orders can change if circumstances change. It's a part of life that they well understand. Of course, it is hard on them, and hard on the families, no one would argue there. A service member can, of course, complain, but they also know that when they joined that they signed their life over to the government for a specified period of time. And saying the people they are helping hate them is a very broad stroke to take...of course there will be people who don't welcome the change, some who do, and some who will decide once they have assurances of what their future will be like.

"that doesn't help, I am an independent but because I don't cow tow to the belief that moore's new film is all fabrications and lies and question the policies of this administration I was accused of hating conservatives/republicans across the board. It was also insinuated that perhaps I really wasn't an independent. shrug!"

Sometimes you just can't win. *grin* Especially when the majority of folks consider themselves supportive of one party or another, and just can't believe you don't belong to a club! ;)
