"...and this country is really in the mood for somebody to tell ’em what they should think, what to do.”

That's exactly what democrats want--to tell the American people what we should think and what we should do. Unbelievable, he just gave away their secret! I'm glad I can think for myself, thank you.

And how about the celebrity turnout for the premiere? Not a real shocker to see Martin Sheen, Demi Moore, Drew Barrymoore, et al excited to be there. And how about Camryn Manheim who was also there, quoted, "A lot of us look to Michael Moore to uncover the real truth." ROFL.

*sigh* These people...

<<"How the public feels about iraq and how they feel about our troops are two seperate issues."

Exactly!>>

In my opinion, supporting the troops and not supporting the war is like saying, I support my daughter who is a hockey player, but I don't support that she plays hockey.

Immoral? He enforced the United Nations agreement from the end of the Gulf War. Oh, OK, I know the United Nations is corrupt to it's core, so in that sense, I suppose you're right.

A legitimate accord by a corrupt organization is, de facto, immoral.

Anyway, what I wanted to tell you (again) is that spewing baseless vitriol (look it up)will get you nowhere. I suggest you study the posts of spiegdon and learn how to be calm, reasoned, articulate and logical. Then perhaps you will further your case.

I pray every day for the troops that are there, not JUST the U.S., the troops from all different countries. (people tend to forget that U.S. soldiers are not the only ones there!) I wish they could all go home to their families, safe and sound. But I don't agree with the reasons they were sent there. Why does this have to be such a black and white issue? There's no middle ground here.

*Disclaimer*- This is my own personal view. Please do not flame or attack, call me a "Bush hater", "left-winger", "unsupportive of our troops", "unpatriotic", or the like. :-)

You're right.

Furthermore, the debate is on more than one level. I am not sure, now, that I think the war was a good idea for America ....it was unquestionably a good thing for the Iraquis.

Honest debate about this is not a bad thing.

But I do not for a second believe any of the "conspiracy theory" evil ulterior motive nonsense that some spout. That's what I find objectionable about this trash of Moore's. It is just pure devisive mudslinging, aimed to inspire class-envy hatred of some of us against others ..... and, of course, to keep his own name in the headlines and his cash register ringing.

Bush exploited the war on terror for partisan gain in the 2002 congressional elections. Need I mention what a boon this was? Until repeated blunders threatened the success of the war, GWB could swagger around as the "War President". It is only in 2004 that polls have turned so negative.

"I'm sure you wish no ill will to our troops. However, the highly outspoken disagreement with the war will (and does) make our troops feel that American civilians do not appreciate what they are doing. How could one appreciate what they openly and blantantly criticize, belittle and scoff at?.................................................... Take your opinion to the polls, not the streets, because the polls are where it makes the difference."

Yes, the polls make the difference ... but what do you think makes the difference in the polls? It's people speaking out. It's the reason our founding fathers made sure to protect our freedom of speech. I know of *no one* who scoffs or belittles *the soldiers* only the administration which sent them there. It pains me to think that any soldier is hurt by the people who speak out. But it's a choice they make. It's completely illogical to me that they should fault us for the very thing they say they are trying to bring to Iraq.... freedom. I will not sit idly by and say nothing about a situation that I think is morally reprehensible.

"Mr. Krugman has got it wrong -- I was listening to the race last week and the commentators stated that Dale Earnhardt Jr encouraged his team to go and see the movie. But we do not know why -- so I have a problem with this article and the use of a celebrity who has not to my knowledge stated publicly what his politics are."

I think you misunderstood Krugman. He makes no claims as to Earnhardt's politics. If you look at the first sentance he clearly states that F11 is a hit "in both blue and red America" I took that to mean regardless of POV. I don't believe he makes any claims as to what Earnhardt's politics are.

Incidently I read an interview with Earnhardt and as I recall this is basically how he explained it, Everyone should see this. Regardless of your political beliefs it will give us something to bond over, something to talk about.
