9/11 Panel Asks Cheney to Prove Iraq-al-Qaida Link.

The commission investigating the 2001 terror attacks in the United States has called on Vice President Dick Cheney to provide any evidence he has to show a strong link between Iraq and the al-Qaida terrorist network.
The White House insists al-Qaida had ties with Saddam Hussein's government, despite the commission's finding last week that the two had no "collaborative relationship" and never cooperated on any attacks.
In an interview with CNBC television, Mr. Cheney said evidence of an Iraq-al-Qaida link is "overwhelming." He said at one point Iraq sent a brigadier general to Sudan to train al-Qaida members in bomb-making.
Members of the bipartisan commission made their request for evidence in interviews with The New York Times newspaper and the Associated Press news agency.

I wonder if this is part of the raw intelligence Cheney stovepiped to the oval office?
I know many people believe Bush (who also adamantly insists upon connections) and Chaney, but honestly I don't know how these men could be so insistant. Then I recognize that they have no choice; they have to reassure the belivers--can't let them get a whiff of doubt.
IMO it is time to switch from reasons for the war, to the poor prosecution of the war. This has hardly been commented on.

Why wasn't the 'proof' given to the 9/11 Commission when the Bush/Cheney questioning took place? If there is genuine proof this should have been presented at that time.

It is a method to further divide the country. Believe Bush or the Commission.
Al Qaeda Link To Iraq May Be Confusion Over Names
"Well, Cheney ought to -- as his boss might say -- bring it on. Neither Cheney nor Bush should expect the American people to simply take their word for it, not after the fiasco of Iraq's non-existent weapons arsenal, which was the first stated reason for taking out Hussein. His support for terrorism was offered second, followed by the need to deliver democracy to the oppressed Iraqi people, who were supposed to be waiting with hope and flowers.
While the difference between what the administration says and what the 9/11 commission has found are not as pronounced as they were made out to be in a report last week from the commission staff, there is a gap. The administration, which took advantage of the political climate created in this country by 9/11 to win support for the war in Iraq, would like to draw a bright line from Hussein to Al Qaeda. The commission, which is drafting a final report for release next month, sees connections but nothing on the order of joint operations or sponsorship.
Given the impact its findings are likely to have on the structure the government creates to prevent another 9/11, Commission Chairman Thomas Kean said over the weekend that if Cheney has concrete information, "We need it, and we need it pretty fast."
If the information exists, one would think even the super-secretive vice president would realize the value in sharing it at a time when his administration's credibility is so strained at home and around the world."

Cheney's Secrecy
If vice president knows more on 9/11, let's have it.

The Washington Post, the New York Times and numerous other anti-Bush administration newpapers have ignored these facts, reiterated by the Commission itself last Sunday after the week-long attack on the administration by the press.
President Bush claimed last firday that he nor his administration never claimed any tie between 9/11 and Iraq. Their claim from day one has been between Iraq and the Al Queda network in general. In fact, the commission report states that Osama Bin Laden as early as 1995, visited Hussein to arrange for the set up of terrorist training camps in iraq. That is simply one of thousands of known facts...known and publicly backed by both the republicans and the dempocrats who make up the 9/11 commission.
Unfortunately, just reading the newspaper or watching the news on TV today ususally doesn't guarantee one all the facts; rather, what is published is the news outlets own opinions and political views used to slant stories of the day.
Exactly!!!
Please provide a link that supports that, from what the commission said no such meeting took place and even though bin laden requested aid and permission to set up trainiing camps hussein refused it.
>>>there are thousands of known comunications between Al Queda and the Iraqi government.<<
Nobody disputes that bin laden attempted to seek aid from hussein and made contact through an intermediary, but that doesn't mean hussein supported al queda. Please provide a link that supports this and if this is so, why was it kept from the commission?
