9/11 Panel Asks Cheney to Prove Iraq-al-Qaida Link.

The commission investigating the 2001 terror attacks in the United States has called on Vice President Dick Cheney to provide any evidence he has to show a strong link between Iraq and the al-Qaida terrorist network.

The White House insists al-Qaida had ties with Saddam Hussein's government, despite the commission's finding last week that the two had no "collaborative relationship" and never cooperated on any attacks.

In an interview with CNBC television, Mr. Cheney said evidence of an Iraq-al-Qaida link is "overwhelming." He said at one point Iraq sent a brigadier general to Sudan to train al-Qaida members in bomb-making.

Members of the bipartisan commission made their request for evidence in interviews with The New York Times newspaper and the Associated Press news agency.

Here is the link: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/terrorism/jan-june04/commissioon_6-16.html

The link states that there were contacts between the two...as stated by the 2 lead Commissioners on the panel (staff report)..

What is interesting is that if US intelligence were capable enough at the time (pre 9/11)to see these connections and to be aware of the possible real threat terror now plays in the US and in the world...and if they were to choose to do nothing about it now...and an incident were to happen on US soil involving Al Queda and Hussein, or at least people with ties to Iraq,...the media-- who are now so against any action or any forethinking on the part of the administration would then immediately admonish them for being late, unreliable and unable to cope with a threat presented so clearly by the establishment of these ties before that incident took place.

With the media as the Fourth estate...you simply can't win on this issue. It's impossible to get the facts and to get a reasonable viewpoint that incorporates all opinions ranging from anti-war at all costs to proactive neo-conservative thinking on issues of US security around the world.

Thanks for your comments.
