Just got back from the theater....A very good documentary or what ever you want to consider it. I laughed ALOT which actually in itself is kind of sad. I also cried a little. Did I walk away angry? maybe a little. What did I learn that I didn't know before? The extent of the Bush family and their ties to the Bin Ladens and Saudi Arabia. If we don't question this as citizens of this country then we live with the consequences. If what Michael Moore says is untrue than why don't they sue him??? I have heard nothing from them at all. After seeing this movie I was surprised that the best argument that I have seen that this movie is made up is the part about the senator and his son being in the military. With so much to work with and that is the BIG LIE you all come up with??? Have I missed something while being on vacation??? To many funny parts to go into but one of my favorites was the scene with Ashcroft running aganist the Dead Guy in Missouri and losing. As a proud Missourian I can tell you that was sooooo true and everyone in the theater clapped at that part. But do not fear Republicans I think the hype is pretty much over, the theater was half empty. Also I will add that Michael Moore did not let the
democrats off easy either. He made it perfectly clear that they took it up the back side on the 2000 election. I understand that their hands were tied with what happened in Florida and this country could not afford to be without a Government while they fought the injustices that were done but it still painful to watch. For anyone reading this who is still not sure who to vote for, go see this movie and when you walk out think about why the Bush family is not defending themselves aganist this so call "Fictional" movie.
Let me ad that I am NOT a Michael Moore fan and have never seen his work before. The fact is that News Footage does not lie, paper trails don't lie the actual words spoken by this President don't lie...Any time the Bush family wants to discredit what was said.....I'll be waiting....

That was my thought also so I started the new thread.
>>Bush is perfectly capable of making a fool of himself with nobody helping.<<
Yes, that's why I don't understand when they say the movie twists the truth or out and out lies....About 40% of this movie is Bushs' own words.....
Thank you for posting "sue" I really liked reading your post. As I said before, I have never seen any other picture of MM's and actually was very angry with him after some of things he has said about certain 911 victims but what makes this movie good is that as you said HE is not in it all that much, he let the Bush family basicly speak for themselves live and on paper. He mainly explains what is on the screen. To bad the Bush lovers of this board and others won't see the movie and then explain to the rest of us where the LIES are. More importantly why won't the Bush family.
Sorry, sue I tried but I could not answer this without being political so I won't answer.
Maybe someone else can.
Well I did. No matter who is in the white house, republican or democrat the services need volunteers and they have to find ways to attract those volunteers. I don't think moore was being unfair about it, it is a reality of having a volunteer military. My feeling is it is imcumbent on our government (no matter which party is in office) to be extremely mindful of this precious resource and not waste it.

the reason I thought he made a poor point is that those congressmen/women do not have conrol over the career choices of their adult children or nephews etc. The better way to have made his point perhaps would have been to highlight the words of the senator who does have a child in the military and fully understands the sacrifice involved in the decisions the government makes regarding the lives of our volunteer military.

i know what you mean. The problem is that many people saying they hate this movie haven't even seen it and they quote others and it is like the game where a story that starts at one end of the line and is completely changed by the end of the line. shrug!
I read Colin Powell's book "My American Journey" many years ago (following the first Gulf War) and this what he said as well and I believe that part. He said that for him, the military offered that type of advancment not available at that time for a black man (and probably not easily available to someone from a poor economic background). I've been in the Canadian Reserves for a few years (not the same thing I know) and once you ARE in the military, race does not play a part at all. It usually is about how well you do your job.
It was in the recruiting methods shown in the movie that I was surprised at. I don't think it is racial discrimination per se....but definately a socio-economic one. The grunts in the field....the ones who are put in harms way and have the worst of it do come from a less advantageous background with less education (Less to lose? No one fighting for them? The ones we can sacrifice?) etc... that tend to die or get injured in the most numbers. What do they do if injured and can no longer serve in the military, the one ticket they had at their disposal to get themselves out of the disadvantaged situation they came from. These kids go back to a life where the possibilities for them are even worse than before....and for what?

Of course. that is the way it should be for a good soldier doing his/her duty. You CANNOT question those who give you your orders and still do your duty in the true sense of the word. So who speaks up for them? They cannot. In fact, they have to CONVINCE themselves that what they have been ordered to do is right....to do their jobs....to remain sane. They more or less have to depend on those much higher up in rank (generals, politicians etc...) or groups of their family members who have some personal experience but do not carry the same obligations to ensure that what they have to do is truely right.
A passage from the Light Brigade:
"`Forward the Light Brigade!'
Was there a man dismay'd?
Not tho' the soldier knew
Some one had blunder'd:
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do & die,
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred."
The better way to have made his point perhaps would have been to highlight the words of the senator who does have a child in the military and fully understands the sacrifice involved in the decisions the government makes regarding the lives of our volunteer military.
Is his son deployed in Iraq?

The guys in the film were doing their jobs well....they were damned good at it and I think, proud. I certainly don't blame them for doing their jobs. I hope when they get out of the military they can get something in sales.

Specialty training in the military is certainly a must. If often keeps you just a teeny bit further away from the carnage than if you were a grunt. It's grunts though that get killed or injured more often and need replacing. The kids that were being targetted at the mall for the most part looked like future grunts. Cannon fodder....boots on the ground....whatever you want to call it.
