what do you think?
IMHO, it doesn't bother me that he's gay or that he cheated on his wife (let's be honest, most straight politicans cheat). i'm sorry he feels b/c of the law suit he has to leave office and that he couldn't just be himself to begin with.

You beat me to the punch. ;) I was about to post this story.
I agree...although I find it really sad that he felt he couldn't be honest in the first place...says something that even in this day and age that
"having admitted his sexual preference, I don't see how he'd still be open to being blackmailed."
Maybe there's more to this story, sounds like it to me.

Thanks for the link. That explains why the governor had to 'out' himself.
I'm feel sorry for his wife & family.
>"Several sources in the governor's office said Cipel, an Israeli national who was forced to resign his state post in 2002, threatened that he would file charges against the governor unless he was paid several million dollars.
"The guy was extorting the governor," one staffer said of Cipel. "He will stop at nothing. The governor was very good to the kid. This is a guy who is trying to get rich."
Cipel first demanded $20 million from McGreevey, then reduced the extortion demand to $5 million, according to one source with knowledge of the allegation.
The sources in the governor's office confirmed that the office has filed a complaint against Cipel with the U.S. Attorney's Office in Newark, which is now investigating the allegations.
A spokesman for U.S. Attorney Christopher J. Christie declined comment. But a source close to the investigation confirmed that Christie began looking into the alleged blackmail scheme late Thursday morning after his office was notified that the FBI had been contacted by William Lawlor, McGreevey's attorney in Washington, D.C., the source said. So, unlike what the dems would have us to believe, McGreevey is not stepping down because he is gay or an adulterer, but to make the story about bing gay and take the spotlight of the real issue at hand. From this point on, if the press chooses to attack him on this, gay rights groups will be whining that it is gay bashing and not a crooked politician hidng behind being gay. I am sorry for the embarassment his wife and children will have to face, but I look forward to seeing how this one plays out in the press.

Correction.... what the PRESS would have us.......
This is what the press reported yesterday without further investigation. Now the truth of the matter is coming out. It was obvious there was more to this than the initial reports.
>"He resigned in March after questions about his background, but was kept on the government payroll at $110,000 a year."< (Quote from your link.)
Must be nice. ;)
My bigger problem is this statement:
"IMHO, it doesn't bother me that he's gay or that he cheated on his wife (let's be honest, most straight politicians cheat)."
How can it not bother you that he cheated on his wife? Does infidelity mean so little now? Put the homosexuality to the side for a moment. This man has destroyed his marriage. He upset the stability for his children. He exposed his wife to health risks that she should never have been exposed to. Add in the fact that it was a homosexual affair which has to make the affair even more painful and shocking.
This man is despicable. It just floors me how this doesn't bother some people that he cheated on his wife. Who cares how common it is. It is unbelievable selfish, dangerous, etc. But I guess in today's permissive society....kay sera sera.
