Russian hostage crisis ended

I have just learned -- not so much thanks to our US news mind you, but the internet about the bloody end to the hostage situation. www.bbc.com has a very thorough article and a time line and some amazingly sad pictures.

My prayers and positive thoughts all go to the people who are suffering in this crisis today. It's heart breaking. Devastating. Why would people hurt children? What's it worth?

I don't understand this world. All I can do is pray for peace and for the health of the families who have suffered today. And for those who have died -- which for now are few. Praying hard no one else dies.

I did see quite a bit of coverage about this on NBC this morning but I think the situation is still quite confusing. But I hope as you do that the death toll is minimal. Hopefully we will be updated soon.

The reason BBC has the reports first probably is the time difference, 5 hrs. ahead of the US's east coast.

Bloody end to Russia school siege.

It never ceases to amaze me, amaze isn't the right word really, how some people can justify the death and carnage of others for what they believe is the greater good. I can't get my head around how anybody can look into the faces of innocents, of children and then blow them up or shoot them.

It is incredibly heartbreaking.

I was really hoping that Putin would show a little restraint since there were children involved but oh, well....

Because they are the most vulnerable in society and cannot fight against atrocities adults are willing to practice on them.

The destruction of future progeny. How better to defeat your enemy than to attack the children. In this manner, you prevent future enemy combatants from being born. It's all psychological.

I am curious about your remarks. Nowhere do you condemn what the muslim terrorists did to the children. Instead you put all the blame on Putin. How interesting.

In my view, the muslim terrorists are fully to blame for the outcome. I believe that they fully intended to cause as much physical and emotional damage to both hostages and their families as well as to the Christian community at large.

"I was really hoping that Putin would show a little restraint since there were children involved but oh, well...."

Putin show restraint?!

Oh well?!

Blaming the Russian army?!

Good lord, you do realize that full blame lies with the terrorists. Not the people who were put in a no-win situation, charged with solving the problem.

If you read the article the army responded when the terroists were shooting at escaping children. What would you have done if you were standing there with a rifle and saw someone firing at children....You'd fire back. Then apparently the terrorists started the mass shooting and bombing.

I'd comment on your signature with 3 different candidates for president if the body of your message wasn't so infuriating.

I hope coverage of this outrage plays endlessly to show the world of the new direction muslim terrorism is taking. They seek to control others through violence. They seek to instill fear by torturing the most vulnerable in our society. The more viewers in many countries learn and witness the new muslim terror tactics, the more countries will rise up and decide to deal with this growing threat in a more decisive manner.

There have been a lot of conflicting reports as to how many were killed or injured and the number of actual hostages has risen. It's just what we are all trying to scramble to read to understand because there is not much we can do to help. If anyone hears of any funds or any relieve efforts to send things to...please post it here. I have an 8 year old child who asked me what we could do to help and I would like to help him to do that.

It will take a few days or weeks to get the "real" facts. We are all shocked and appauled by this and the other poster was correct. A lot of these "terrorists, seperatist groups" have no reguard whatsoever for others. They look at what they are doing as a good thing and that is a state of mind that you just cannot reason with. In some sense, it's a war on a mindset that is ruthless and has no front or reguard for human life...even their own...because they died for their cause.
