It appears a male being within several feet of a female at a college is now a police matter.

Will a male alive within a mile of female become our next breaking story?

I don't think it was necessarily a case of trying to prosecute someone for violating personal space, but more that there were a couple of rapes last fall, and the young woman was probably reporting what she felt was suspicious activity.

Rape could happen anywhere anytime. A man walking about without any threats, and without saying anything, COULD be a rapist. I guess UConn should round up all males that fit this description and keep them detained for the safety of us women.

I was merely suggesting why the young woman reported the almost-exchange and why police may be seaching for more information.

I've never seen a campus restricted to young people. UConn accepts people of all ages, it even used to accept males. Though now I guess that male proximity to females raises alerts that will change. Currently we have a son attending UConn.

Having had sons on campus, I understand your concern.

It shows you how far we've come. When I was a young co-ed in 1982, there were 3 rapes on or near campus that were kept all hush, hush until the women themselves began protesting that other women were being endangered by the very secrecy surrounding these assaults. The end result was an escort service being set up on campus, by the sororities,
