The operators at my company MUST answer the phone exactly the same way each time.

The headline is misleading. She was not fired for the greeting. She was fired for insubordination. She is answering her boss's phone, he gets to decide how that phone is answered.

If she couldn't follow simple directions from her boss maybe she didn't need to work.

When I worked at McDonald's way back in hs, I HAD to answer the drive-thru, "Welcome to McDonald's, may I take your order PLEASE?"

Whenever I worked the main switchboard or, later, just answered the phone at my own desk, we had a protocol for answering so that the caller knew exactly who they had reached.

The number of characters allowed in the title is limited. Title is supposed to be 'Woman Fired, she says, For Telephone Answering Greeting'.
