USA : Small Rural Schools Threatened

In Virginia, a fight is on to keep a 100-year-old school open. Due to a budget crisis, county authorities are considering closing smaller schools and sending the pupils to larger schools further from their homes.

thanks,

It would be a shame to close these small schools. Maybe the infusion of federal monies will allow them to stay open or raise local

I don't see why small schools should be closed. As long as the buildings are safe and they have qualified teachers. Why fix it if it ain't broken? Whey overcrowd bigger schools that already have too many children? Busing kids just makes it more inconvenient, adds expenses to the school board for hiring drivers, gasoline, bus purchases and maintenance. Not to mention the aggravation to the families!

Not just small rural schools...small urban schools are feeling it too.
