Mexico violence prompts new look at US gun laws

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Diaz also says a 1930s gun law can be used to regulate imports of .50-caliber rifles also used by the cartels. Federal officials say about 90 percent of guns seized in Mexican organized crimes came from the U.S.

I'm just saying that owning a gun, like driving a car, etc., is no longer a 'right', it's now a 'priviledge'.

The Supreme Court has made it pretty clear they disagree with you. Frankly, it makes me nervous that someone would consider a constitutional right a "privilege." Are the other rights similarly malleable?

Then the Constitution needs to be amended to reflect that.

"unless you intend to operate it on the roads"

You mean like the vast majority of people do with the vehicles they purchase.

Why do you think this? Can you cite any studies or reports that suggest such a thing?

Doubt there are any such studies or reports.

I asked because I DO have friends who live in very rural areas around here where the coyotes roam freely.

I have the feeling that we will have to agree to disagree on this one.

Really? You spend a lot of time at gun shows? The gun show I visited this weekend featured 200+ exhibitors, 100+ FFL dealers (each with at least a table full of guns), and I saw fewer than a dozen individuals walking around trying to make private sales. Hard to figure out how that translates to a very high percentage of the sales being made.

Perhaps that's how it is in your area.

I hope you're right.

However, as I've stated before, I seriously doubt that anyone will have their legal weapons 'confiscated' any time soon.
