An ipod!

Excuse me! That isn't the proper gift! She's royalty! This is one of those examples when you pull out all the stops! When you use Great Grandma's expensive bone china that is kept in the hutch in the parlor and all the kids are never allowed to go near it because its saved for special occasions!

Does this man know nothing? For crying out loud,go read an etiquette manual! Or get someone who specializes in royal protocol!

And she already has  an Ipod!

Another faux paux added to the list! After giving the PM dvds which were the wrong region to play in the UK.

Look,I know he's a rookie, but if you don't know, ask! People will respect you a lot more if you admit you don't know. Ask questions. This is how you learn.

"Any woman who can get thrown from her horse and get back in the saddle, have a retinue of comical dogs like Corgis, and Charles for a son, must cut loose behind closed doors, sometimes."

LOL You bet!

"I find it far more rude to comment on someone's gift...."

Yes it's the thought that counts.

"...from idiots that are still fuming that he won the election..."

You're probably correct & those will never be pleased whatever he does or says.

Yup :)

There was enough to-do that he was having tea with HRH in the first place.

As others have filled you in on various aspects of the quite lovely gift, I'll offer that you can be glad he didn't follow the example of the previous president by winking at her.

Though I'm not sure that in his case, she would have minded if he did.

Ummmmm, maybe President Obama should give back the original thirteen colonies. Now that would be a gift fit for a queen!

Or here's another idea. He could give her a quick neck squeeze just like Bush gave German Chancellor Angela Merkel at another conference of world leaders. Of course, Ms Merkel didn't look like she enjoyed the process and Bush had far less excuse, having been in office for almost a half dozen years at that point. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTQY1Aw9zcs By contrast, Obama has been president less than three months.

There was similar indignation over a collection of DVD's given to Gordon Brown. You'd think that Obama would realize that the world's leaders deserve the imperium which they are due and focus on giving them appropriate gifts; rather than trying to solve piddling problems like a North Korean rocket launch, staggering world economic distress, and the inherent threat of rogue non-state entities like Al Qaeda or the Taliban.

Do all 13 have to go back, or can we pick and choose which to part with?
